Organizing Your Life

I have a new goal. This goal is to restructure the way I go through my days, the way I manage activities, the way I prioritize tasks and projects.

I currently receive help from a professional, including a session on time management. I even put some initial effort into it by organizing my workspace for a more productive lifestyle and work.

So instead of incredibly unorganized lifestyle when I would wake up late and go to bed late and have absolutely no time left for anything else, I plan on making my days extremely productive: wake up early, work when the rest of the world works, and have time for entertainment, sports and leisure, while still getting to bed early.

I was wondering what your average workday is like. Is there anything you would change in the way you get through your routines?

Best,

Time is always a problem for me, but luckily I know exactly why and where most of my time goes, so I'll get to change things one day. In short, I need to find a way to make the money work for me. :)

No, I'm not exactly pleased, but as long as I know my goals and I think that I know what I need to do to in order to change things for the better in the foreseeable future, I feel that I am in some kind of control. Hope is where I get motivation from. :)

For the time being, I think that I'm focusing on the right things and dedicating the right amount of time to the important matters. I don't plan to live with the current schedule all my life though. :)

As far as a daily routine I'd say it's pretty much a clusterbomb here.

I wake up about the same time every day, bed just depends on how long/grueling the day was.

My days are pretty much the same day in and day out as far as work goes:
7AM - Wakeup
8AM - At the office, eat breakfast while checking E-mails and updating work orders.
12PM - Lunchtime.
1PM - Return to work.
5PM - Leave work.

Now between 5PM and - usually in bed somewhere between 10:00 and 11:30 - sleep there's super that could be anywhere between 5:30 and 8:30. There's "Entertainment Time" which is anywhere between 5:30 and sleep, and then there's clean time which is anywhere between 5:30 and sleep.

As far as work hours go, I like to do the offsite visits (Go to a different site, fix their problems) during the afternoon, sometimes they have to be done first thing in the morning. Like tomorrow and Friday I will be doing the offsite visits in the morning. And not every day is there an offsite trip planned, for instance - today I didn't go anywhere.

How are you planning on organizing your time Art? Are you dedicating certain hours of the day to HD, are you being that mapped out? Or are you just saying, between this time and this time I will do all my online stuff - E-mails, forums, etc...

I have suffered from the same problem as you for a long period of time!

Although a few weeks ago I snapped out of it and managed to get up early, goto bed early and really enjoy my days, I put on more weight (which was a good thing) and felt alot more healthier and active.

Work does tire me out but I know that at the end of the day it will be worth it.

Well you'll be one of the first to know, that I overschedule myself, which causes me to be extremely busy.

I would change everything about the way I spend my days.

I try to work a normal work day/week. However, note, a lot of our customers don't understand the "normal" work day or work week, as those folks who don't understand them, spend practically every waking hour online. Thus, they expect you to do the same.

There has to be a line drawn, when it comes to time management, and your personal life. You have to draw the line yourself, and be prepared to be criticized for it.

Quite literally, I have had everything from PayPal disputes, to being called a scam artist, simply because I couldn't get back to someone within a few mins, on a Sunday.

You'll find a lot of that, in today's industry, primarily because of the reasons I outlined above...they don't understand. I think it has a lot to do with what today's industry is comprised of however......a lot of children.

The key is determing what you can do, when you can do it, and making sure others know about these limits before doing business with you. The responsible client knows and understands these limits, because they too have limits. The clients that don't.....well they're not clients you want or need.

I remember a situation at *another forum* where a company's owner had lost his little sister. His clients basically posted "How is that our problem?" No sympathy whatsoever.

Surround yourself with the right people, and time management becomes less of a task, and more of a habit.
