Today I was creating a new part of our support system, and I started sendmail (shouldn't of been off)

What happened next killed me inside :smash:

Over 50 sales emails that had come via our chat system flooded my email inbox, from up to two months ago!!! :sad:

Seems that sendmail had stopped and about 50 potential clients not responded too - Now that is the moment I cried a little!
Time to change to SMTP !

at a guess you are using WHMCS
we changed to using SMTP some moths ago as we were getting many email issues using sendmail
 
Yes, but not for live chat, never on planet earth ha!

I always use SMTP for our in house desk and whmcs etc etc, but chat is helpcenterlive, can't find any SMTP settings yet.
 
That is okay, we have a random extra mail server that we keep local for mostly junk stuff that our company uses (a few nerds in the back office). Storms came through this week with +70MPH winds and horrid thunder, power went out, server fired but they were able to "rig it", now they are getting back emails for the past few months too. All I heard the other day were a ton of obscenities coming from the lounge area.
