No downfall?

Actually, business is growing and I expect the trend to continue. :)

Same here. In fact, at the beginning of the year I had 2 options. Try and work for someone else, or kick my own business into overdrive. There's literally NO jobs around here, so I was forced to do everything myself and it's paid off well. I can't say the economy hasn't or won't effect me, but I'm not seeing it :)

Since we host 99% business sites we did see a drop last fall when people started doing year-end books and went out of business we lost at least 6 companies that just "went under" and others that decided another year wouldn't be wise.
This spring though we have picked up far more than we lost (we were worried for a while) but we will just have to take a wait & see attitude and we have also been thinking of ways to branch out from our "niche" without losing it...something complimentary we haven't thought of yet...:rolleyes2

Business has been slower than I would like it to be, but I am hopeful that it will pick back up within the near future. We already offer great prices and fast customer service, but the problem is that many people don't seem to have any money right now. As I said though, I am hopeful that we'll be doing better soon.

I think that things are doing well online imo. You get the folks that are out of a job that look for the make money online type things and end up getting a domain and hosting as a start. I think thats one reason hosting is still booming.

Hello,

Great topic! I can honestly say I have not experience alot of issues. I think everyone can agree you have better months then others - but that's part of the business. I think with more and more people getting laid off they are turning to the web for assistance. Some have even found a 'niche' online and are making money. But, perhaps the web will be the last place to get effect; who knows. I don't really think that will be the case. You will always need what we in the web hosting / web design and development business do. People make money with their websites -- FACT! We are not going anywhere:)

Great topic, Well done on the post.

I think the fact that the hosting industry is growing is because of the following.

Unemployment is rising, with many staying at home and going online and trying their hand in web site creation.
Unfortunately fly-by-night web hosts are starting to grow

Nope, have not experienced any downfall. The hosting industry is pretty much stable so I do not think we will experience any downfall anytime soon.

Yea the internet is recession proof I think and for long time. We are such a new industry that web hosting is younge kid. I think web hosting will increase by 30% this year. The stocket market I think will be around 10500 by year end. We will see!!!

I saw a slight decline with business sites going up (mostly local to our state since we advertise here first, then spread out, etc.) but the personal sites going up seems to have almost doubled since this time last year. I am not sure what is going on there besides more and more people wanting "their own" place. :)

That happens every year around this time. School's out soon.

Yup, A ll the new kids on the block. I am guessing we have to get ready for a influx of people complaining about shoddy web hosts.

But, I think its a good sign that internet companies are able to weather the storm for now, but I think if we start to have more problems in future, if its a long term problem then we may see an increase in web hosts going bust or closing up.

I assume that ech web hosting service provider has own idexxes and that is mostly depend on the kind of web hosting service which is provided and type of the customers

Bingo rumsfo thats what I was thinking too. After I had logged from her yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine about that and we had a two hour chat on where we think hosting will go, pending it doesn't flop for most.

And those shoddy kids on the block, who needs 'em. ;)

Just a little update on my last post, but business has already been starting to pick up a bit over the last few days!

While we still aren't at the level that i'd like to be, positive changes are always welcome.

I think that hosting companies will be OK because having a website is a cheap way of keeping your business running. Even though a physical building and employees may disappear, it's relatively cheap and easy to maintain in comparison if you just have a web site to keep your company afloat. So with that said, there are still companies calling web hosts to create a site, or at least keep it.

Initially (earlier this year) we did see a drop off in our busienss (we deal mainly with new businesses and small ecommerce shops just getting online). We noticed a lot of people really evaluating their options and cutting costs where they can.

We have seen a rally in recent weeks where many of the people who left our hosting services for hosting at companies offering "unlimited" space, are now returning to us as the level of service and ability to run certain scripts are severly limited on the UNLIMITED hosts servers.

In the past month or so, we've seen a nice turnaround of new signups with very limited cancellations. This happened almost alongside the economy predictions that were released last month.

We're now in Christmas mode here at Hands-on. Chistmas you say? Yes, Christmas! Since we deal with Online eCommerce, if stores are not online by July/August they run a very high risk that their SEO and Marketing will not be in effect for the November/December season.

We've also seen a lot of people starting up websites (blogs, forums, online stores, social sites etc) as a means of a second income. We're not seeing many on the Hosting Reseller side, but our Affiliate Progarms are booming currently.
