News: Mom allegedly cut off baby's arms

I guess we can simply take it as it is.

My mother thinks she had postpartum depression after I was born. She told me that she used to just look at me and start crying thinking she hadn't the ability to take care of me.

That case must've been a severe one though. My mother didn't think about killing me. It is very unfortunate that no one realised something was wrong before the tragedy happened.

Schlosser had been investigated on child-neglect allegations this year, but Texas Child Protective Services had recently closed a seven-month investigation, concluding that Schlosser did not pose a risk to her children.

Maybe they need to reassess their methods.

According to her neighboors, she was a loving mother. I guess she was under serious depression during this horrific act. The risk, however, is just so big its hard to say what needs to be done.

They played the 911 tapes over and over here, it was just bone chilling to listen to her. Child Protective Services had been involved with this family once before because she left the baby in the apartment alone with the doors open. I think they should have been keeping a better eye on her and her hubby shouldn't have left her alone while he was out of town. It is a horrible thing and just so sad.
 
What could drive a mother to do such a horrific act? If she had any mental disorder, as previously mentioned, she should have had the child under better protective care. Unfortunately, things like this do occur. However, that does not excuse any mother from cutting off her own baby's arms. This case should be investigated so these terrible acts have less of a chance of happening again.
 
Unfortunately ... a lot of the time no one is even aware that the postpartum depression is as severe as it is.

Cases in point ...

The woman in Texas (now in prison) that killed her 5 or ??? kids and then called her husband at his work to tell him what she had done.

2003 (I think) in Toronto ... a psychologist jumped in front of a subway train with her baby in her arms. Both died.

Just a few months ago in Toronto ... mother attacked her children & husband with a knife ... and then killed herself. I think 2 of the children survived ... but the rest all died.

But if my memory is correct ... although spouses & families of the women were aware (as were the women themselves) that they were suffering from a mild depression ... no one ... not even their doctors were aware or even thought the women capable of doing anything close to what they ended up doing.

Its horrible and terribly sad for those left behind ... each no doubt shouldering a bit of guilt because they no doubt think they should have seen something more than they did. But from what I have read ... in most cases there is nothing more that could have been "seen". These women just seemed to be living their life and dealing with the mild depression ... and then in a moment something snaps and ... their deed is done.

Makes you wonder ... really makes you wonder. In the case of post partum depression its one thing, at least then there is a biological reason behind it. But the other cases .... just insane
