Hey guys, I'm going to New York for the weekend with my girlfriend and some friends. Just wanted to say "Cheers!" to my favorite community and depart!

I hope to drop by every day if such an opportunity comes by. I'll definitely get some pictures and post them when I return on Monday.

Best,

Enjoy!

I'm planning a "mini-vacation" to Chicago in June for HostingCon, and then Hawaii in August. Thinking about maybe pushing that back to December to get outta the Iowa coldness, it's just August works sooo much better into the whole grand scheme of things.

will you stay in a hotel in NY ? if so, could you recommend a good one with reasonable prices. ive been in NY but from the hotels i saw i was really unimpressed.

I can suggest where NOT to stay :) The Waldorf-Astoria. Was in NYC for business & a charity gala ... gad ... was it 15 years ago??? Was there for 3 days in a suite. Woke up first morning ... no heat ... no hot water. When I asked the front desk for a different room and told them the problems their response was about the problems was ... but thats not possible.

Long story short ... the Hiltons flagship hotel was all in all ... crap. Worst service but most expensive place I've stayed. When I got home I fired off a letter to the head office. They were very apologetic and offered me ... round trip airfare and a complimentary 3 day stay. I told them if they gave me limo service to and from the airports ... my airfare ... the suite and $5000 spending money I still would not step foot in that hotel again. And I haven't.

One time I did stay in a real nice small hotel in the Village ... great prices & service ... but do you think I can remember the names of the Good Hotels I've stayed at? I only seem to remember the "horror stories".

Anyway ... hope you are having a GREAT time Artashes. NYC can be a terrific place to visit

RackCheck ... I will check with some friends and see if they can recommend and really nice economical hotel for you.

Take care
Peter

Try to check out the Carnegie Deli Art.
It's across from Carnegie Hall.
Biggest deli sandwiches you will ever see. They're not cheap but they are great. Great atmosphere as well.

Hey guys, I'm back from my trip. Its was pretty cool, but very brief. I'll respond to some of your questions as well as post some pics later on in the day.

Best,

Well, I'm back in town after spending the weekend in New York.

Since there is no better way to describe how we spent the 48 hours that we had in New York than with pictures, here goes...

We weren't in town for two hours yet - we already saw a celebrity. Bill Hemmer, anchor of CNN Live Today passed us on the street:

My girlfriend's favorite spot in downtown Manhattan - the Rockefeller Center:

I questioned the quality of the hotel before the trip. Actually, everybody on the trip did. Staying in a great location (half a block from Times Square) for only $90/night would sound fishy to anyone. It turned out OK. The hotel is not even of Best Western level or anything, employees might be a little rude, but it was surprisingly clean with daily room service.

The next day started with breakfast in Metro Cafe.

Trump tower was not to be missed. My girlfriend is becoming rather concerned with my The Apprentice obsession.

Luckily, our weekend was the last weekend for The Gates exhibition in Central Park. Cool orange color really adds to park's winter scenery:

Here is a better picture of the gates:

Near the end of our walk through the park, we made a friend with Clyde:

You cannot resist a hot dog in New York, not to mention Central Park. We stopped for this traditional feist:

At night time, we decided to pay a visit to one of the best Sushi restaurants in NYC "Sushi Samba":

Needless to say, a very expensive place to be, where each piece of sushi costs USD $4. However, it was the best sushi I've ever tried in my life.

For those wondering how my hotel looked. Name: Portland Square Hotel. Overall experience: I would recommend to stay there because its clean and secure. of course its no 5-star hotel, but the location is terrific.

Finally, it was time to say good bye. Picture taken from the bus:

We stopped by outlet center on the way back to Montreal. Burberry store did not see us coming. My girlfriend and me pose as we try on stuff. :D

Overall this trip was very exhausting, we departed at midnight on Thursday to arrive at 12 am (lunch) on Friday. If not for the 4-hour stop at the US border, we would not have lost half the day in New York. 12 hours on the bus is NOT fun. It was time to go back home Sunday morning. In spite of the time limitation, we did manage to do a lot of things, had great dinner parties and covered all upper Manhattan on foot, did some shopping and went clubbing. Out of 96 hours the whole trip took, I slept around 10 hours.

Best,

Wow Art! Those are some great pictures. $4 a piece???? I'm glad you enjoyed that sushi! :) Good to see that you enjoyed your trip and that you returned safely.

The trip was amazing no matter how much time I slept. Everyone else had no problems grabbing extra hours of sleep on the bus. Its just me who can't relax under those conditions.

Welcome back Artashes, glad to see you had an enjoyable time. I can certainely agree that many hours in a bus/car isn't not exactly somthing you'd call fun. :D

Art - no offense, but not what I had pictured you looking like. Imagined you to be a bit of a taller, broader kinda guy.

At any rate very nice pictures, what kind of camera do you use?
