The death of my band's guitar player, and my best friend for 15 years, has sparked us to plan out a tribute show, and a tribute CD.

While in the studio (between recording), I was sitting with an accoustic guitar, just running through warmups, and they (the engineer and production manager) actually recorded it. They said it would make a good guitar solo in tribute of our fallen friend.

Before it makes the CD though, I'd like to get some feedback.

Remember this is just a warmup, so it sounds kind of random.

Mark i have to complement you on your guitar skills. How long have you been playing for?

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your friend especially if you have known them for 15 years.

Hello Rob,

Thank you for your kind words. I was inspired to play the guitar by my grandfather, at the age of 5.

The world lost a great guitar player, and an awesome human being, when Dave was murdered.

The tune sounds quite cool, and you've got a real skill there. I'm sure once the "randomness" is taken out and it will be a more cohesive piece. It's got a faster tempo than I would usually expect for a tribute (looks like I do have some prejudices), but given that your friend was a skilled guitarist himself, I think it's not an issue in this particular case.

Condolences for the loss of your best friend, in such incredible circumstances. Shocking doesn't even begin to describe the enormity of the facts.

Thank you, and yes you're right about the randomness. My only problem is, that has almost always been my warmup exercise on the guitar (both electric and accoustic), and I now have to find a way to bring my warmup which by definition should be random, into a layed out cohesive piece.

I agree completely here. I had actually written an arranged piece which was much more melodic and quite a bit slower. I had my reservations when they suggested this warmup go on the CD as a form of tribute. In fact, that was one of my reasons for posting to get feedback, to see if folks were more in line with my train of thought or the producer's.

Thank you. When I first found out about it, the night he died, I was so much more than shocked. I tried to make sense of it, and denied the possibility at first, that it could be my friend Dave. I continuously was asking "Are you sure it's Dave?...Our Dave?!"

Mark, what a solo! I had no idea you played the guitar so well! My girlfriend has been wanting to take guitar lessons for a while now, but I might just rethink getting her the guitar for Christmas...

I love to hear good guitarists, Paco de Lucia, and my late favorite Canadian Jesse Cook who I heard live on Canada day. I think you should seriously consider making your own solo CD.

And its also a very nice website you built in memorial to David. An honorable way to keep the memories alive.

Mark that was fantastic; I am extremely impressed and I'm sure the final piece will be extraordinary.

My condolences to the loss of your friend and a very nice website you have created.

Don't be sorry - Mark your work is fantastic :)

The name 'Flight of the bumble bee' defiantly goes with the piece. The website you made also looks really great - I especially like the goals of the foundation.
