This is complicated but I'll try to be brief. In chronological order:
I have a private nameserver. It has worked well and domans pointing to it have worked, for the most part as best could be expected with a Host from Hades.
My Host from Hades (HFH) "upgraded" and sent an email showing the old and new IP# that would need changing with the Registrar.
Well - there are Registrars From Hades (RFH) too, as I discovered. Most I deal with let the client change the NS1 and 2 IP#. Not this one. From experience, I emailed and asked the RFH to make the change. Waited, got the email asking for confirmation and was told this would be done.
It was - sort of, but, the IP#s I was given end in 98 and 99. The ones that show up with Whois, and that depends on what WhoIs YouIs using, end in anywhere from 83 to 99!
One tech at the Registrar From Hades told me they have to make the IP change manually. Another, two days later said changing the IP# does nothing. Another said it was entered wrong and another day, today, tell me they never made the change and she even called me a liar when I read the email from dnr@(regsisrarname.here) stating otherwise.
Well, the ###.###.###.85 is the access to WHM/Cpanel login!
When going to a domain web, that works. But, FTPing to any of 20 domains resolves to .85, not the .98 or .99 - sigh- and, domain mailservers - some work, others don't.
I could move the nameserver domain, but I'm moving more than 20 domains out from the Host from Hades and will deal with the Registrar From Hades later.
Right now, I can't even FTP the Domain backups out from the HFH, so I can trans them to a new Host. Even plugging in the right IP#s to FTP doesn't work either. The Host refuses the FTP connection at all 21 of the domains.
Obviously I don't know much about nameservers, registrars, and domain resolving, but what worked before, doesn't now and my host blames the registrar, the registrar, depending on which one is answering tech support, gives a variety of blame, but not there. I'd like to put them both into a ring, with metal boxing gloves and tie their shoe laces together - but I'd rather just getting it all working right.
Now you know how I've spent most of my life - any ideas on what I can do to get things working right - clearly neitehr the Host nor the registrar have a clue.
