Most will probably already know about the announced acquisition of Sun Microsystems by Oracle back in April 2009 but fears have been growing as developers have realised the potential impact.
Sun who had previously acquired MySQL which will now fall into the hands of Oracle, the leaders in closed database systems, this in turn being the main alternative to oracles system does not look good on the consumer front as we all are aware that all of our applications currently use mySQL.
As such a Petition has begun as expected, the effect it will have no one is yet sure but personally may be very little however we as users will have to see how this one pans out.

Any thoughts?
