Hi,

This is my first post to the forum, it’s very informative and enjoyable really.

According to Routers, Myspace will cut its staff by 30 percent. As you can guess, Facebook and Twitter are very powerful competitors of myspace. There are many more competitor in online community industry and I wonder which one will become most powerful. Any predictions?

Facebook is clearly a better application than MySpace, so I think it will be the only one left standing.

Well, I think the one thing about social media is that is has to constantly change to stay popular. (Attribute that both to the "social" and the "media" part of social media.) MySpace is on the decline, as we have seen. Unfortunately, I think it was/is plagued by performance issues, spam, and the overall uniformity of the website. They had myspace page themes and such, but the actual content never seemed to feel all that dynamic. (Paradoxically, Facebook is quite static with its design, but is quite dynamic with the content.)

As much as I like Twitter, I think it will wane. However, I think there will be something new waiting in the wings to take over for Facebook and Twitter. One thing that Twitter picked up on (and Facebook to a large degree) is that it is all ultimately about the interaction between people. The next company to grasp and deploy a website/application with this in mind will do well. I think it will come in a different format, but I admittedly don't know what. If I did, I wouldn't be sharing it with anyone, either. ;)

Yup to this!

MySpace is full of spammers and has lost a lot of ground on Facebook and what it offers, it is trying to play the catch up game which it is not doing so well. Facebook all the way

Welcome to Hosting Discussion. :)
Certainly, Twitter is very popular in Iran right now. I actually expected some downsizing with MySpace.

Twitter has it's place, but in many ways I think it was just a fad and will eventually die off. It's TOO simple for many. Not really a social network in the sense of others, but it does have it's place. I use it (rarely), but I do use it.

Facebook? I spend a lot of time on it. Actually we do some advertising on there and it generates quite a nice little batch of new customers on a regular basis. I prefer Facebook over MySpace as you're not being forced to see custom pages, music, flashing graphics etc etc. I use it for tracking various bands etc that I like, but beyond that, I'm never on it.

I expect to see some dropoff of MySpace and potentially a sale before the stock/worth of the organization drops too much.

twitter has it's niche and facebook is clearly beating out myspace. honestly I don't even hear of people using myspace anymore. Wonder how many of the accounts are inactive for last few months.

I'm not shocked one bit. It was going to happen sooner or later. MySpace was big back in 2003 - 2004 and now everyone's on FaceBook. MySpace was lazy and haven't changed there approach in years - what did they think was going to happen?

Agreed.. We al noticed Myspace start to copy Facebook.. First with the lifestream/status, then the bottom nav/chat bar,etc..

I know I can't claim the idea of anything, but I recall posting "what I'm doing right now" on my Myspace page many years ago, long before the whole "lifestream thing" took the stage online.
