Hello,
I can't believe I found a forum like this! What a resource!
Anyway, I'm in the middle of a little hell with my current webhost, iPowerWeb. They've been fairly solid up until this issue, with some decent enough Tech support (albeit somewhat slow) and features aplenty. My server is now, however, plagued by a dreadful "max_user_connections" mySQL error. How this could have possibly come about, I have little idea, because my traffic is hardly strenuous on any server as to exceed a limit of 500 connections. I contacted their support about 2 and a half weeks ago and they said that the problem was due to my scripts "not complying with the set 'max_user_connections' limit". (Sure, blame it on me.) Perplexed, I went through ALL of my scripts with a fine-tooth comb, and not only found few ways of adjusting anything regarding SQL server interactions, but also that doing so made the problem WORSE. Furthermore, these are just some basic, oft-used scripts, such as XMB Forums and Kreative News -- certainly nothing special or elaborate. I contacted them again and they said that they would look into it...
A few days later I got a response that said that they had raised my server's "max_user_connections" to the highest allowed on shared hosting, and that it should fix the problem. It didn't. And so the problem goes on, and I grow more angry. I am currently in talks with their QA Manager, who said in what seemed like a form letter that he would "do all that he can". Alas, he's only working Mon-Fri unlike support, so I must wait 48+ precious hours (for me, anyway) for any response. I told him that I simply want to cancel my account soon and get a different host. (FYI: I am currently looking at Aventure Host, which appears to be very professional and is right now holding a special that is hard to ignore. I also have used XMB Forums - developed by one of Aventure's clusters - for a couple years, and have found their people to be nothing short of superb.). We will see if the manager can sort this out, or at least help with the situation, but I am not holding my breath.
So, what does this sound like to you? Good host gone bad, or just bad host holding the same? Like I said, they've always been great up until now -- I am surprised to say the least. I still maintain that it could not possibly be my end that is causing the issues, but it's my word against their's. There's also not much I can do to prove my case simply because I don't know what's going on to begin with. I am also worried that I will not be refunded the unused portion of my subscription year (ending in June), as the 30-day money-back guarantee was over many months ago; they technically owe me nothing, even though there was no way I could've prognosticated this issue so far back.
Does anybody have any advice for this situation? Or, at least some feedback on Aventure Host (with which I will most likely host with if this doesn't pan out)? I figured that this was an ideal place to tell my tale when I came across it.
Thanks for any help!
