also there were invitations to be a beta-tester for this, however there are none left anymore.

Interesting move. I wonder what the reasons are for the Yahoo integration. Maybe it's to try stop the download of that other messenger that does them both (Trillian???).

Probably an attempt to make MSN the default messenger for anyone.. this way Yahoo users will even use it more and less programs need to be open.

It's a pat on the back for both of them. Yahoo messenger will give anti-MS users somewhere to go and it will help MS take over AIM's market share. (Why, oh why does ANYONE use AIM?)

Incidentally, the "built in" media player is great for Microsoft, too. The court ruling says that MS cannot distribute Windows Media Player with Windows in Europe. (Users now have to download it seperately, and what muppet would download a 17MB file when Winamp is available? Oh wait, 90% of internet users are muppets!) - Distributing it with MSN makes sure users still have the media player and MS can still sell you music via MSN Music. (Or, more importantly, MS can still market Windows Server 2003 with Windows Media Streaming)

Either way, the new MSN is Microsoft's way of trying to stop the bleeding hole that is MSN Messenger. It's currently costing them to run it and the sooner they start making money from it, the better. (Here's an idea, Mr Microsoft Developer man. How about chats being decentralised? You know, like peer 2 peer? Firstly, you'll save on your bandwidth which must be an absolute killer on MSN. Secondly, if I'm already signed in and talking to my friend, I'll be able to carry on when your server has yet another "glitch".)

I'm sorry but Mr. Ashish here seems to be broadcasting this on multiple forums (forum spam) although it doesn't seem like it at first. I've been following similar trails on other forums as well as well as their other associate Priyanka. Anybody want proof? :-/

Ah well, this particular post started a conversation. If the spam gets bad then I'm sure Matt will deal with it ;)

I believe this post to be ok as it has started a discussion and is in the appropriate forum (The Lounge). The types of SPAM I am more concerned with is something that doesnt add something to the forum and sparks no discussion and may even carry a "try out our hosting" where it shouldnt do.

All is ok here.

A lot of people post big news topics on multiple forums, not an unusual thing to see :)

I think this is a good move, I have only been using MSN for a few years now.
I used to use Trillian for all programs but I was getting too many IMs!

Looking forward to seeing how this works out.

Ah, here it is:

The thing with this kind of spam is that they're making a business out of the hitcounts that come from being reporter on topics that you're gonna find on CNet.com anyhow.

Oh well, just my personal grudge I guess. I suppose I should be reporting info on Bush's nomination for Chairman of the Federal Reserve, eh? :-D

On the subject though: interoperability is good - I've always found AIM a little too kiddish (I think it's the AOL logo dude or something) and all our clients use MSN and Yahoo anyhow.

Cheers,
Roj
