Movie Time

Watched any good movies recently? Recommend any to watch? We saw Up last night ... got it for the kids, and have to say, it kept them entertained the entire movie. My wife gave it 3 stars. The kids all gave it 5 stars. :)

I don't watch a lot of movies in theaters anymore. Obviously, I don't watch movies for kids (yet), but here is what I would recommend:

The Hangover 4 our of 5
Zombieland 5 out of 5
The Road 4 out of 5 (the movie is all acting and Viggo Mortensen carried the movie fantastically - possibly earning him a nomination for one of the big awards)
The Paranormal provided not a bad enough kick

I am awaiting a couple of more movies from Zip next week: The Gomorrah (I think it will be terrific) and In The Loop. These should be interesting.

The best thing about Inglourious Basterds was Christoph Waltz's spectacular acting. I am more than sure his performance will be noted by the academy awards.

We watched The Paranormal, but I was not impressed - 1 out of 5. Of course, my wife wants to watch it again. I need to keep one eye open when I sleep. :)

I didn't know how to quite rate it... I only mentioned it because I thought it was a good job done on such a small budget (I think around $13,000). Kind of like the Blair Witch Project done on a $60k budget. But as a piece of cinematography, it doesn't really compare to anything else I've mentioned.

Just like I thought, Christoph got his Golden Globe. Really cheering for him to take the Oscar as well.

District 9 is a rececent favorite of mine.

Other movies that I've watched and enjoyed recently:

Devil's Rejects (Rob Zombie was very good at music but even better as a director)

Pink Floyd's The Wall- Lost count on how many times I've watched this.

Monster's Inc.- I still think this is the best animated film to date.

Funny People- Adam Sandler is hit or miss but I thought this film performed well above expectations.

Food Inc.- Disturbing but everyone should see this movie.

The Wrestler- Mickey Rourke finally returns as a legitimate actor.

The Ninth Configuration- Hard to find but one of the best movies every. Dark comedy with great dialog written by William Peter Blatty.

Where the Buffalo Roam- Bill Murray portrays Hunter S. Thompson so much better than the lame attempt by Johnny Depp.

I watched Avatar last night in 3D.
It's about an hour too long and it's a good thing it's in 3D otherwise I would have left early.

Not much substance.

So tell me. Is it watchable more like a movie or more like a computer game?
Haven't watched it yet, and don't quite want to yet.

"Dexter" was insanely creepy in the movie Gamer, but I liked it (all of it, a little gruesome at points so not all might like it but you would need to check the previews).

I can not think of the other one we caught last weekend but when I do I will pop back and let you all know (was pretty nice too).

Has has a computer game feel to it at times.
I would certainly never watch it on DVD but it is visually impressive enough to watch in 3D.

I've been waiting really, to see what others have to say about Avatar - haven't seen anything in 3D for years, so this may be worth the investment. LOL

It's odd Steve.
I went to see a 3D short film about 20 years ago at Disney World.
I think the 3D effects were more impressive then but overall the whole visual aspect of this film is hard to beat.

I would suggest sitting near the middle of the theatre.
Sitting up front distorts the effects some.

Not sure if i saw the same thing however from my memory Disney (USA) took it to the next extreme with misters, fans and moving chairs to imitate the film "honey i shrunk the kids" at the time :) dont quite get the same effect with 3D when you get wet after the dog sneezes at the camera :P

Though id agree the visuals of Avatar are in a different league, i thought it was great though it seems to be a marmite situation with most :D

Recently I have seen The Hangover , Zombieland , The Road and Clash of the Titans.
Clash of the titans is action movie and I like it so much.

Recently I saw "The Hurt Locker", which is nominated for nine Academy Awards and won six including Best Picture and Best Director for Bigelow, the first woman to win this award. And I recommend too.
