When it comes to mobility, does anyone have experience with an ultra-portable laptops? Please share your experience. Also, how do you compare ultra-portable laptop experience to regular sized laptops?

I have been looking into Asus Eee PC (as a gift) that was launched recently:

The price tag is affordable $300 for a 2GB version. Less than a kilo, loads in 10 seconds and shuts off in 5. Seems like a great gift for a traveler who needs to stay connected and do some office processing work at most...

What do you guys think about this product? Serious or not? Other ultra-portable Asus Eee' competitors (all based on Windows though and traditional software) start at $1000.

I think that particular one looks GREAT depending on what your use of it will be. I doubt it will handle games that well, but if you want a fairly decent tiny machine to check email on the road as well as be able to update websites and what not then the Asus one does look good.

I won't be the primary user, but the sole purpose of this laptop would be to:
- check emails
- work with office documents
- perhaps listening to music (in rare instances)

The only inofrmation that I am trying to find of whether it supports installations of other software on it...
