Mission Statements

Just found this as part of a company's online mission statement -
the selection and ongoing support of information technology for business is like legal advice, accounting, graphic arts and other bodies of knowledge, in that it is not inherently a do-it-yourself prospect. Smart business people who aren't computer savvy, and even those who are, need to find quality vendors of reliable hardware, software, service and support. They need to use these quality vendors as they use their other professional service suppliers—as trusted allies, as partners!
I completely agree. Does this mission statement apply cross industry? Absolutely. I'm curious if anyone else reads mission statements? They do speak to the management and culture of the business on some level. Does your company have a Mission Statement? If your employees were asked, would they know what it was? Or does it not make any difference?

Of course, mission statements should be customized for the company, but the general principles here are excellent. I think a carefully written mission statement is a critical element for a successful business.

I like what they wrote. I don't read them too much, but we do have one here at Hands-on too. The nice thing about business (in general) is that it's a living, breathing thing. This allows for a mission statement to constantly evolve while remaining true to the core of the business idea.

I think it's important too for new employees to be familiar with the general business mission. It's a way for employers to make sure everyone's on the same page.
