Do you offer incentives to your customers?

Hey,
Do you offer an incentive to your customer to post in your company forum?
Or maybe something for them to get someone to signup?
Do you offer an incentive for anything else and if you do, what is it?
Do you think they work? Are they worth it?
Do you think the return outweights the cost?

I usually offer cPanel/WHM free with my dedicated servers usually helps them to decide, and its only $10 as advertised on my website so I am not losing much at all, and they think they are getting a good deal.

Well I think you should keep that a secret just in case...you know :D...Our forum hasn't been too active as of yet but we offer incentives to people who signup for annual packages or who recommend someone to us and so on. Normally it is something like FREE domain registration for a year and I definitely think it is worth it because I take it from the total cost and when the year is done they renew it anyways which is I guess a no brainer. I think it balances out everything in terms of financially speaking.

I don't have company forums now. I find, that if the clients don't post in them - it can put a very bad image on the company. However, if the clients post a lot - then of course it makes the image of the company better. The problem with my company and forums, none of my clients wish to use forums since they are given support via e-mail, helpdesk, aim, msn, icq and yim - meaning of course the options are endless, and they really don't see a point in posting in the forums. This, is actually quite the same with many web hosts and companies unfortunately - and also people interested in becoming a client, if they see an empty forum, then they are put off. However, thankfully this isn't always the case. :)

I do offer specials to my clients, if they have one of their friends signup. This can range from a free domain, to free months worth of hosting, to even a full dedicated server if they actively keep referring people. However, unfortunately the most of my clients aren't too bothered on doing this.

Do they work, not all the time. Is it worth it? Certainly. Does the return outweigh the cost? In my case, yes.

I'm pretty sure 99% of companies do something to get more clients, for example if you pay a full year in full, or two years in full. Some clients I even offer a domain name free for the whole time they're with my company. This helps too.
Everything and anything does help, and 99.9% of the time the return does outweight the initial cost.

As we say in Indiana - Yup!

I offer my existing customers a free month of hosting for referrals, the offer is reiterated every month at the bottom of their invoice.

That is actually a good incentive , but if your a good host they'll recommend you anyway, but if they recommend you it's a nice way to say thanks - the old what goes around comes around thing :D

I give either two months of free hosting or a free domain when they pay for hosting for one full year in advance. I also give a commission or free hosting or something free if they tell other people about our services. Word-Of-Mouth works good for me.

I've tried giving a free month hosting or even cash rewards for referrals but nothing has worked out yet. I am currently trying to offer the person that refers a customer the same amount of money they pay me for the first month, even if the person isn't a customer. But that has been slow to take off also.

Regards.

yep

Yes, I do. So far I opened by forums 5 - 6 months ago and have given out $60 in free credits to top posters. Now, I currently have a $50 Best Buy gift certificate deal and a $25 runner up for my forum members.

We credit the referrer with their referrals' 2nd month bill. It's brought some more business. Our clients used to recommend us before we instituted the incentive but this makes them happier:)
