Yes it is. Managing websites came before the Cpanel and other control panel software. If your selling services thou most of your clients will require and want some form of control panel to maintain their site. If not you will be doing a lot of work for clients that a control panel would give them access to normally.

I've been with hosts that didn't have cpanel, and while people can still make out websites, without without cpanel really makes it a lot more difficult. It's just a lot easier to be able to look up my site stats, edit the webpages, and install things like databases.

Yes it is possible but in the long run that would be hard if you have many clients. Specially if you're running a hosting company you need cpanel to manage things. Also WHMCS.

If you are technically sound then there is no need of any webhosting control panel for you. Also it saves server resources if you avoid control panel.
