Paul, it is definitely a trend nowadays that people place relationships behind careers. Unfortunately, the system is such that when people graduate from school, they need to make a living (whether to pay the loans or regular bills). So a lot of young people are worried more about paying rent than finding a partner. Given that there are fewer good jobs out there (and those that exist don't pay much), people overwork themselves and they have barely any time for any social life. So when are they expected to meet and date people? Unfortunately, things settle down when people hit 30s and get some kind of financial stability that allows them to start thinking about themselves.
It is a sad reality.
