Love Linux?

Outside of a server environment I have never used Linux. I might just have to boot up a box with the desktop version on it. I know I would much rather use it then Windows. Love the site Steve.

If you're going to load up a linux box on your own location for a desktop, go with Ubuntu. I've been MORE than satisfied with how it works. It's almost as easy on the inital installation as Windows is. Some of the other flavors have to be tweaked along the way, but from a desktop, Ubuntu kicks butt. I use it here on a couple of my machines. Still use windows too as I get too many excel spreadsheets with calculations and macros already made in them and they will not work right on an openoffice type setup. Same goes when I send those excel files BACK to people. So I still keep windows around for my email and my calendar stuff - other than that, Linux is where I live.

Love linux for servers web and network server. But I must say I use windows for my desktop computing. compatibility is really cannot be denied. :(

I've been working with Ubuntu for a few weeks now, my first experience in a few years with Linux outside of a server environment. Given the ease-of-use and attractiveness of Windows 7 though, I'm not sure I'll make a permanent switch any time soon ;)

Microsoft appears to have done some things right lately, like Windows 7 and Bing. Let's hope the trend continues.

"To truly use any Linux distribution your going to have to either take classes in how Linux works or spend time reading a lot of books and forums."

I actually think this is a positive for linux. That way you do not get incompetent people trying to do it. You don't see the average Joe trying to use Linux. Nope, he cannot grasp the concept. That is why Windows has so many problems. Not all because of Microsoft but because there is no you have to be this tall to ride on the windows ride.

I know it is off topic but this Mac ad agianst Windows kills me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MimCZikP8cY.

I love these commercials too, but with the economy the way it is, the masses will continue to buy Windows on price and convenience.

Lots of my family and friends always ask me why we use linux for our customers. This is a great resource to show them why!

Thanks!
