This!

You are able to network with professionals and building up long term business relationships. That is one of the key things I have been working on. Making friends with CEOs and other professionals. These friends and contacts have become handy.

I myself know some on Skype and we chat every now and again and offer support and help to each other when we need it. Very helpful and beneficial.

I do but not that many members to my group, not on it that much, more to do with a couple local business groups that use it to network

Even if LinkedIN is a "social" network it's nothing like facebook or twitter.

My LinkedIn is only connected to people thatI have done business in one way or another. That way i know how to contact them even after I or them change workplace and moves on in life.

while facebook or twitter are more open to everyone, LinkedIN is more business orientated and used mainly for businesses setting up focus group and forum groups.

I use Facebook for more personal stuff, the friends I have there is not only people I've met doing business but also my private friends.

I can be more jokingly on the posts I make in Facebook then on LinkedIN.

then I have two twitter accounts, one personal (which I rarely use) and one for my main site where I post updates about the sites. For those that do not want to signup for news via RSS feeds.

All social sites can be great if you use them the right way. LinkedIn is not for random chatter, it is all about business contacts. I tend to use it though not as much as some others in the office do. My job does not require constant communication on the business side, it is more on the back end instead.

Agreed with the posts about LinkedIn definitely being a useful site. I think it's wrong to consider it in the same light as other "Social Networking" sites. I have to remind my wife of this all the time, actually, when I hear her say something like "ugh, this person wants to add me on LinkedIn, and I don't know them!" I have to tell her to just add them, as the more business connections you have, the better! You never know when in the future, if you are out of a job, you may need to reach out desperately to any connection you may have.

Of course, there's a limit to this, if those people start to harass you about job opportunities, or spam, etc. However, I haven't really seen that, personally, on LinkedIn, before.

It's one of those things where you'll get out what you put in to it. If you spend a lot of time from it, the stories of people generating business relationships and customers from it are very real. If you just make an account and never go back, you won't get any business from it.

So the question becomes whether or not you'll get business from it but is it the best use of your precious time. Minute for minute, I don't personally think it is, but perhaps I am either better at other things or bad at LinkedIn.
