Linkedin security breached

Hi

I just got this email from Linkedin

You may or may not have heard that Linkedin has had their security breached and a huge number of users names and passwords have been secured; as such we´d highly recommend you CHANGING your Linkedin password with immediate effect and protect your security.

If you use the same password and user name for other sites, such as facebook etc. we recommend you change them all.

whats the world coming too.

How manys that in the last few weeks?

It's bad and good at the same time. Maybe people/businesses will start to take note and properly secure their sites. The amount of large businesses out there with subpar security is staggering and when it comes to peoples personal information they need to take the time to properly secure their sites. CSF+changing the SSH port is not enough!

This is getting annoying already. I am tired of logging into sites and changing passwords :) And linkedin is not a small company - they sure have the budget and should be able to afford hiring people who know what they do...

And linkedin is not a small company

Facebook are bigger and they are always suffering attacks etc.

they sure have the budget and should be able to afford hiring people who know what they do...

its like everything, if they want to be in they will get in no matter what security measures you have in place, all you can do is make it harder for them to find a way in

Changing the password until LinkedIn figures out where the leak took place exactly is kind of pointless. Presumably, while they are still investigating the issue, hackers might still have the access.

its the same mentality as facebook have. as when facebook gets attacked rather than them look at where its coming from or how they are getting in its a simple " please change all your passwords and you will be safe"

That's not good news. It reminds me of Sony, whose website was attacked by hackers who managed to secure credit cards' details of Sony's customers. I hope it wouldn't happen to Amazon and eBay.

never say never, but i hope they dont get attacked.

i think i read somewhere (some time ago) that amazon have their DB on a separate system and that the system changes the password on every logout of their admin system.

That's great Terry; it makes me feel better. I am a regular customer of Amazon and I hope they keep my credit card details safe on their DB.

i dont allow my card details to be stored on any site as i think even with the best security if someone wants in that bad they will always find a way.

I don't know about the rest of you but I love seeing when beaches like this happen and people still get caught using the password "Password". I mean really, even if its a good-bad mix of the rest of us needing to login and change a password, at least we are not the nitwit with the password as "Password".

people still get caught using the password "Password".

this is becuase they dont know anything about websites or the internet, they install a script which most will default to username "admin" and password "password" and they dont bother changing these.

Ive had clients do the same.
