Leaving out "WWW" from domain name

I have registered a domain name, "layton75.com" through www.melbourneit.com, and would like to make it so visitors can simply type layton75.com in the URL instead of having to type the "www" in front of it. As you can tell, I'm new at web hosting, and don't know much at all. I'm hosting the site on my own web server at home. Please help!
Thanks,
Nate

I typed "layton75.com" in the Address bar and it gave me a high school reunion page - I'm guessing this is your website. It seems to work for me. "www" is not part of the domain name; it is a sub-domain.

Thanks, I guess for some reason it wasn't working at my parent's house. Oh well, if it worked for you...
DNS propagation tends to be a bit different (normally only 10 mins) between the www and non-www addresses; i've never understood why, and I probably never will.

I've tested your domain and it works, so no worries!

It actually depends on the browser, sometimes people dont even have to enter the extension (it goes directly to .com) and it takes you to the site. Glad you got the information you needed.
