Does anyone have any experience with this hosting company? www.layerblue.com

I'm trying to do my homework, but I can't seem to find a single, honest user review or feedback on layerblue.

There is a guy that posts here under the name "layerblue" (joined last month):

http://www.hostingdiscussion.com/member.php?userid=4400

...and that is about par for the course for Layerblue. Everything I can find didn't seem to exist 2 months ago, even though they say they've been around for 3 years? As near as I can find, they have exactly one customer. Their user forums have a single post (not kidding! One post!), as if they were created last week. No one seems to answer their live chat, even though it says both a sales and technical support person is online.

None of that is, individually, a bad thing ...I'm more than willing to consider a new, small, upstart company for my host, and I don't think I'll need much support provided the servers stay up and the admin tool is adequete, but it does affect my decision process given the length of commitment.

I'm particularly interested in their Code Blue package. If their marketing hype is true, they would be the only host I've ever found that supports all of the different development languages I'm interested in (ASP.NET PHP JSP CF .NET) with multiple types of database support (mySQL, SQL, Access). As a hobbyist developer, I hate being limited to what I can do ...

I'd appreciate any feedback from the posters here, even "layerblue" himself?

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions for another host that might offer the widest variety of support for different technologies? ...even if it means giving up some bandwidth allowance?

Thank you for your interest. We initially started in business running under the domain lblue.net, but we had a difficult time getting the name recognition which is why we changed to Layerblue.com (easier to remember).

With regard to the forums, they were just intorduced recently but haven't been catching on with our userbase as of yet. I guess most of the customers are shy, or just not aware of them even though we made an announcement.

As far as the Livechat goes, let me know the times that you have tried to contact us so I can look at which employee I need to have a chat with :) Any time that the ONLINE button is displayed on the site, someone is in fact online and 'supposed' to be answering requests.

If you have any other questions, just let me know either here in the post, PM or email me directly. I will be more than happy to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns that you may have.

Thanks for the response, Layerblue. I haven't decided yet on a host, but you are still in the running of 15 contenders so far, almost entirely based on your feature set to price ratio.

My primary concern with your company is the lack of any real pricing matrix. For example, you don't have any 'addon' or 'going over' pricing noted anywhere on your website. First rule of hosting review is to get to the bottom line ...read the fine print ...and your site doesn't seem to have any. I have no idea what it would cost me if I wanted an extra MySQL database added to my plan (or even that I CAN add to the plan at all) or how much I'm being charged if I exceed my limits.

The feature set of your Code Blue plan is well written for not being in a matrix as, I think, most people are used to seeing. The section for Coldfusion support says, "for customers who choose to pay for it" ...which indicates it is an optional, additional cost feature of the Code Blue plan, although one of your sales reps did confirm last night via live chat that CF is in fact included. Minor thing really, but that's what got me to look for the non-existant pricing matrix.

You have some good positives, however. Your site, for the info it has, is well written, graphically pleasing, and organized. The fact that you are a member ...albeit a recent member ...of a hosting discussion community is a plus as it shows your commitment to your responsibilities as a host. And, your Code Blue features / price ratio is excellent.

All in all, I'm still researching and comparing. I do appreciate the response, though.

Hi there

When I first joined layerblue.com over 1 year ago, their support and service was fantastic.

The tickets were swiftly answered and their service was good.

I liked them so much I have 6 domains through them.

But for some reason, they have been absolutely terrible the last few months. IF the support tickets get answered at all, the info they contain are amateur and dodgy. The servers themselves seem much slower than before.

It almost as if they suddenly sold the company to a bunch of amateurs. If their servics dont improve, I will not renew hosting for any of my 6 domains.
