Hi all,

I am starting a multimedia degree course in september and im after a laptop for then.
I want the best deal i can get, any ideas? or any you particularly like?

Coincidence. I'm looking for one too. I figure I can get atleast $875 off my desktop, including 17" monitor  Yeah, I may stop by Computer Renaissance if I'm deseperate -- maybe get one for around $600 there. In the meanwhile I'm gonna look around online.

I'm open to suggestions too :)

I like Sony Vaio's (if thats how you spell it) I am a big fan of Sony electronincs, mainly because with pc's and things liek that companies go bust all the time, sony are huge and have been around for ages so you know they wont disappear.......Also every piece of electronic equipent i have had from them has been excellent quality :)

Just like Exodus, PSInet, Enron, Worldcom etc, etc - LOL
The bigger they are the harder they fall ! Great if they are web hosts!

Yeah thats true i guess, ive just had more bad experiences with "new" or hardly heard of companies than i have with the big boys.

Well, I can only vouch for Medion. They are a very large European based electronics company. They make PCs, Laptops, and so on. Their prices are very good too. They also sell in America as well, so give them a call if you want. They are extremely large, and make everything from PCs and laptops to vacuum cleaners and plasma TVs.

You must be the most lucky person alive! But seriously, I used to only buy Sony - Sony CD player, TV, Video Machine, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Now - I don't bother with Sony at all. I find their parts are cheaply made, their quality is very bad. I presume then that they only send their quality things to the U.S.A. then?
Now, I'd never touch a Sony anything. I only touch Medion - firstly, they're European and can give us people in Europe better prices, second their parts are all quality and I've never ever had a problem.
I guess I must be the only one with bad experiences from Sony?

I had a really, really old Thinkpad, and the screen died.. Now I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S150. It's pretty good, I really like it. It has a 60GB hard drive, this model comes with 512mb memory installed. I chose this one, because Dell and Sonly don't give as much hd space and memory for the same price. Most of Sony's newer laptops are pretty expensive, and also Dells laptops, comparatively if you look at the specs and price.

Full Specs
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz, 15 in. XGA TFT Active Matrix, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 512 MB, CD-RW/DVD-ROM. It has a 802.11g Wireless LAN built in, and a Integrated 10/100 card. It weighs 7.7 lbs, this is the only thing I would like to change.
