Kid of 17 getting sued by Microsoft for domain mikerowesoft.com

Microsoft has to be the most paranoid company I know...

Intersting point though. Does a copyright really extend to similar sound words? How about if he/she is not providing competitive products/solutions?

Considering they are providing web design....

If the kid gets a good attourney (which really, why bother), I think Microsoft could be in tough on this one...

I think, If I were the kid in question here, I would offer to sell the domain name to MS for a nice little sum of money.

Thats just me though :)
 
Yeah he offered to sell for $1000.
He got an email from the lawyers saying to give up the domain, then replied saying he put a lot of time into the site and wants some money in return for giving it up.
The offered him a pathetic $10......

He replied and said he wants $1000 and I think that was a bad move.
I think they can take him to court if they can say he only got the domain to try make money from microsoft, which I really dont think he did.

I doubt any judge would make the call in favor of microsoft.

A lawyer in his town said he will represent him for free.
Good way to get advertisement for his site isnt it ;)
 
I can't see them making him get rid of that domain.. that would be like PierHosting saying you can't have PeerHosting or even PierHoeSting.. stupid..
 
He's getting free legal representation, hosting, publicity, and a real surge in business. Wish I'd thought of it first. :rolleyes:

He got a stupendous amount of hits on his site after the story broke. :)
 
haha yeah I noticed that too Decker.
One of the sites in his portfolio was linking to a forum, the forum had 11 registered members, and over 1200 guests when i viewed it earlier haha

Really must have brought so much traffic to his site!

Still, I think it was really low of microsoft to only offer him $10! I mean, that probably would barely cover the cost of the domain, let alone the hosting he would of paid for and time..

It's getting there, but I dont really have much time to work on it in the week. Still, shouldnt be much longer now.
 
Site about game development, and a bit about computers in general. It's going to be pretty good. IE there'll be loads of free resources, tutorials on how to make your own games, the software I have made (some free), open source games, gallery, an arcade (best bit) and all of it programmed by me in php :)
