Kaspersky Pure and Windows 8

Hi All

Ignore what Kaspersky says on http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/pure regarding Kaspersky Pure 2 and Windows 8

their page actively says
Windows 8 Compatible*
* - Some limitations apply, for more details see the System Requirements.
and under System Requirements it states
Microsoft Windows 8 (32/64 Bit)
Microsoft Windows 8 Pro (32/64 Bit)

Intel Pentium 1 GHz 32-bit (x86)/64-bit (x64) or higher (or a compatible equivalent)
1 GB RAM (32-bit); 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

bear in mind this is the order page that under UK laws must display all facts so a consumer can make their choice to order this or not and according to the page this is compatible with windows 8

I have been using Kaspersky Pure for several years and when i upgraded to win 8 i have to uninstall pure due to compatibility issues so i contact Kaspersky to be told it is not fully compatible and they dont say its compatible and they pointed me to http://support.kaspersky.com/8040 which shows

The following components do not function in the program:

Safe Run for Websites, Safe Run for Applications and Safe Desktop.
Application Control.
Heuristic Analyzer in Anti-Banner.
Firewall.
Proactive Defense.
System Watcher.
Extensions for Microsoft Internet Explorer Metro.
Blocking of dangerous scripts in Web Anti-Virus

When upgrading your operating system to Windows 8 on a computer with Kaspersky PURE 2.0 CF2 installed, standard Windows Firewall will be automatically enabled.

so all you get in win 8 with pure is very basic AV. i spent 3 days trying to get them to understand they site does says its compatible i was getting no where until i told them i would report them to Trading Standards that they toild me that pure 2 is not compatible but when they release pure 3 sometime next year that will be compatible, but as a gesture of goodwill they gave me Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 free. maybe they dont want this reported

I wonder what their definition of compatible is? I used Kaspersky once to help me out of a jam, but haven't used them since.

Yeah, this doesn't look compatible to me. Maybe they hope most of their user base is clueless and won't notice that most of the options don't work. I'm no lawyer but legally speaking, seems to me they are in the clear. They're basically saying the AV will "run" on Win8 which it does and that some restrictions apply, which is also true. Still quite misleading and borderline false advertising...

But uner UK laws they must list any restrictions at the point of sale, so any purchasers are aware of any issues etc.

also Kaspersky Pure is £59.99 while Kaspersky AV is £29.99. I only upgraded my Pure 2 months ago, so Basically paying twice the price for their AV.
yes anyone would know Pure will not work as during the Win 8 upgrade it tells you to uninstall Pure before it can continue, what go me was their attitude saying the the AV components will work but thats all, when they show WIN 8 compatible in the requirements. this also got me

Dear Sir,
The Internet Security 2013 is using the new 2013 engine which does support Windows 8 fully, - Pure 2.0 is using the 2012 engine, but has the additional features in comparison to Internet Security such as Password Manager and Encryption etc. The Pure 3.0 due early next year will incorporate the 2013 engine, hence then be compatible.

so if they are already using the 2013 engine on the AV and IS why have they not utilised this with their Pure already.

I have been using Kaspersky since 2000, but i am considering moving to Norton due to this.

I don't understand why people are jumping ship to Windows 8. I think its too early to make the switch considering that its a new operating system and still in its infancy stages. I see a lot of complaints about compatibility issues. Compatibility is always an issue with new operating systems, users need to wait it out.

I used the pre release on a second system thay only has a AV on as its just used as a testing machine and as a backup in case my main PC fails.

Win 8 worked great on this system, so i was considering upgrading onto my main PC, but normally wait for the costs to drop as new OS are usually way OTT, but when i checked online upgrades were being sold for approx. £50 plus for downloads and the cheapest disc version i found was £88.
then i found Microsoft selling downloadable upgrades for £24.99 so i decided to order 1 of these and in the order process a backup DVD for £8.99.
Kaspersky has been the only issue i have had, all other software is working without issue even MS office 2000 premium is working without issue

I currently have Kaspersky, I don't think i'd go with pure anyway. But it's pretty silly how they've said it is compatible when all the main components won't work.

True and especially when Pure is just KIS with a few added features and with Win 8 you dont even get KIS features working all your get is KAV part working so you pay £60 for a £30 product.

I have never just installed an AV on any PC as its not fully protection I used Norton IS for 4 years until i had an issue then after spending 3 full days on Symantec Live chat it was 100% clear their techs had no idea how norton worked. i contacted their CEO office and never ever got a reply, so went with Kaspersky and purchased this from one of their agents (so i thought). when the disc failed to work due to missing file I contacted Kaspersky, who told me thay never heard of the site etc. i purchased Kaspersky from so they would be taken action agaisnt then (3 days later the site was down) in the meantime Kaspersky had sent me FOC a KIS disc for bringing this seller to their attention. I have been using KIS for 7 years now but switched to Pure 2 years ago. they did provide me a FOC licence key for KIS 2013 so i am still protected, but i think they did this to stop me informing trading standards.

Precisely, especially when it's being said to be compatible with OS's that it's obviously not. Probably something to avoid until the newer version comes out I guess.

Need to renew my Kaspersky in around 4 weeks, time to buy Kaspersky 2013 I thinks.

well when a company you trust with your PC security makes such false claims and then cant get the fact it breaches UK trading laws they start to lose my trust, even though they give a product FOC as a "keep your mouth shut sweetner" when i changed my Broadband provider I could have stopped using Kaspersky as i am entitled to Mcafee Internet Security free, but dont like Mcafee

So this was not a fresh install of win8? It was an in-place upgrade?

It was an in place upgrade which was purchased direct from MS (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_DIS_ShopHP_FPP_Light) and upgraded direct onto my PC without losing any files etc.

I checked to documenation i have for Kaspersky Pure and it states win 8 compatible and also on the Pure order page it says compatible. It is only in the Kaspersky KB where it gives restrictions, but under UK laws if it has restrictions these must be displayed at point of sale ( order page) as this is the page buyers would read and make their decision to purchase or not.
