Is there market in blog hosting?

I was just thinking about what makes up the newest Net trends today: podcasting (audio/video), social collaborating (web 2.0), blogging.

In your opinion, do you think those new trends have enough market power to actually allow some web hosting companies to solely focus on these niches and grow (as in being exclusively dedicated to them)?

There is a HUGE market in blog hosting but too bad it's already been taken.

Google owns http://www.blogger.com which basically has a monopoly over blog hosting. It's 18 on alexa. It doesn't have any ads (that I know of) so you can't really compete with it.
 
True, but the example of "blogger" is a bit narrowed to your own application.
I was wondering more about people who run their own blogs (any application be it Wordpress, Nucleus, etc) with their own domain names. :)
 
I could see a company having blogging as an area of expertise, since many people now run their own political or personal blog. However, a company only offering blog hosting seems too specialized and to me, it wouldn't last that long.
 
This might be sort of "off topic" a bit ... but what the heck.

I know that there are some companies that appear to specialize in only selling blogging space ... but can't help thinking that in order to make themselves viable (as in provide themselves with an adequate income) they probably also provide other types of websites. Possibly under different company names.

Myself ... I think a company that could offer a variety of "idiot proof" types of websites for the consumer would possibly/probably flourish ... these days.

Everyone & his brother seems to want to get into some type of website now ... whether its under their own domain name or a subdomain of a main site. (or however you describe it).

Blogging, picture gallery, scrapbooking, genealogy ... a lot of them just want a site to do one thing, for one hobby. Blogging for the frustrated journalist who fills shelves for a living, etc.

So I think anyone who can get their company known as THE place to go to ... no matter what kind of specialized site they want. A site where they just log in and go ... no steep learning curves etc. I can't help thinking that a company that can do that can't help but do well these days.

I'm thinking that forum hosting may be the way to go. I wanted to start setting up phpbb forums for a small fee...only because you have to create the database, etc. I wonder if it'd work. Probably not though...

Actually, that is definitely has room for growth. I've been working previously on a similar project, but it just went silent at one point. In the case of this project, forum hosting would have been offered free of charge.

There are plenty of blogs who make a lot of money, because they have a lot of viewers reading on their blog, and they sell advertising.

I know Bryan Le (He owns www.forumshock.com) And a lot of other websites, and is very how you can say 'Internet Popular' and He sells advertising at his blog I think, and im sure it would make quite a bit of money.

I'm finding this to be true in the niche hosting that I run for PLR Article company. The users are just taking to using a Wordpress blog because of it's ease and, honestly, the seo capabilities are hard to beat.

I've actually begun pre-installing the blogs for them and they like the service. I know there's products out there to automate the process, and I may start using one here soon.

Has anyone ever had any experience with Wordpress Cloner? I like the loks of it and the potential it may have for what I do.
 
I love my blog, I host it in a private place, just as my own personal journal. Firefox has a deepest sender extension that you can just click on and post from anywhere in firefox.

blogger and live journal have a large part of the blogger market. Not only do they allow you to have other blogs, they give you a network of bloggers to interact with. It might be hard to over come that.

You also have to keep in mind that most hosting services offer Fantastico, Autoinstaller etc., that have wordpress, automation is tuff competition.
 
Not really... everything to do with host* [ing] is soooo saturated its not even funny... niche time im guessing?
