Is Namecheap a good choice for me?

Hi all,

I am a little upset because I host my forum and other sites on my friend's server who has dedicated server, but now he is closing his hosting business

My forum opens very fast with his servers but now I have to go to somewhere else, I just contacted Namecheap and asked if I can host my little-busy forum there or not on their shared hosting package.

They will reply me but I want to know your advices too about Namecheap. Is it good choice to host a VBulletin forum on shared hosting from Namecheap?

Or I should buy their Business Hosting Package?

I don't want to buy VPS or Dedicated Server because I don't have much knowledge of hosting and I have heard that VPS and Dedicated servers are very difficult to manage for person like me

Need your help please.

If you have your domain name at Namecheap, you may want to consider the consequences of hosting there, too. Namely, Namecheap can suspend/delete/take your domain name and hosting account with relative ease, leaving you SOL on both fronts. It is advisable that you register your domain name and host at two separate providers, if this applies to you.

If not, please provide more details. How many users on the forum at one time? Database size? Type of website? Is it just a forum or are there other parts, too?, etc

No no, they will not close/ban my domains because I don't do anything illegal.

My forum is this ( DecentDiscussions dot com ) it is not really very busy, only few members come online at the same time because it is a new forum (7 months old).

I am currently hosted on a dedicated server where there are not many other clients, but when I go to shared things will be different.

Edit: I have other 3 wordpress sites too which get around 100-150 visitors daily.

I echo this recommendation. If you ever decide to move hosting from Namecheap, for whatever reason, it would be so much easier to NOT share domain name and hosting services with the same provider.

Don't completely forget about VPS/Dedicated. Look into managed services. There's many providers that will setup EVERYTHING for you to get you started.

Well if you find a good VPS that is managed or patially managed and that accepts support ticket then you should be good.

It is generally advised to keep your Domain name and your Hosting different, however not mandatory its a good practice.

It's been over a week. Where are you in the process of moving your sites?

Namecheap is not that cheap. There many low cost hosting with great service available just do same research first. Compare prices and hosting features.

I think a reseller plan would be perfect for you at this stage. You can have multiple domains hosted and not have the hassle that a VPS/dedicated brings with it. Your price for a reseller plan would be around $9.95-19.95 depending on your requirements. Best of luck!!

You could get a reseller plan if you want to use seperate cPanel accounts, just get a plan from someone not offering billing software, it is usually cheaper than the ones that offer it.

I would recommend not going to namecheap for hosting. Just like I recommend people don't go to hosts to register domains.

Reason being is namecheap specializes in domain names. Go with someone that specializes in web hosting (there are literally millions of hosts out there, some great, some not so great.)

You could also get a small managed VPS if you felt the need, but, that could be quite costly (at least $50 average).

I would recommend looking into a managed VPS. The added performance gains will be worth the slight premium in price.

Need your help please.

busy forum is great source of insight and source of advert income.

when it is getting busier,

usually it need more bandwith.

find good hosting company that provide you with good 20gb bandwith and enable you to host your busy forum

Depends on traffic level of your forum, if you're getting tremendous traffic a shared plan might be not sufficient for you.

Most shared hosting providers don't like to have forums I had to move my forums many times because this problem. Now I have them at Godaddy. I have economy hosting package for one forum which is is active a lot ( still not so big 2000 posts a month ) which cost me like 5 usd per month.
