ipowerweb problem (sm)

I'm having a major problem with ipowerweb setting up my dedicated server. I purchased dedicated hosting on 6/4, I received an email on 6/17 saying it was ready to go and live, however it never has been. The support has been terrible. I've emailed, I've called, all to no avail. In the meantime, I'm using a lot of bandwidth on their shared server, so my cgi-bin and post.pl stop operating due to "overusage". I've explained again and again that I can't move from the shared server to the dedicated server until they make it live. I'm going out of my mind here. Is there ANY hosting service out there that offers dedicated hosting WITHOUT the myriad of problems and provides excellent support? :smilie3:

I'm truly sorry to hear about it. I did have negative experience with iPowerWeb myself long time ago. I guess things haven't changed much since.

If you are looking into good dedicated deals with support service that would care about you, look into:

1and1.com
micfo.com
ev1servers.com

Best,

Thanks for the info! More inside

The $59.00 per mo. managed package through 1and1.com looks good. I'm going to call them on Monday and drill on them about their customer/tech support.

In the meantime, my site was suspended due to "nonpayment". I got it resolved and it's back up, but it only further validated the shoddy customer support and disorganization of ipowerweb. This should have been a seamless move. Instead, it has been an absolute nightmare.

I would not recommend ipowerweb to anyone.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Ipowerweb are terrible - read my story

I paid for a dedicated server setup + 3 months. After 1 month they simply deleted all the files and gave the server to someone else. They did not send me a letter, warning or anything else.

I did not make backup for 2 months, and I lost all the data. I have more than 5000 users of the site that spend few hours a day on this forum. I don't know what to tell the, All their communication and files are lost.

It is 5 days now that I asked Ipowerweb to explain or to correct what they did. I contacted their manager (manager@Ipowerweb.com) and he does not answer me. The people in their chat say they are sorry but it does not help.

They don't even answer my request for refund of the 2 months, that I paid and got nothing.

I advise everyone to ignore the low price of the dedicated servers of Ipowerweb. I spend more than twice of it for phone calls, faxes etc, not to mention my time. I tried to explain to them 20 times their mistakes. Each time they told me that I have technical problems and I need to pay their technicians $65 per hour. At theat time my server did not work not because of technical problem in it, but because of a simple reason that they gave it to someone else.

Imagine that... ANOTHER complaint about iPowerweb :crash:

Ipower gave my server to someone else

How do you know they gave it to someone else?

Hi Blue.

In the begining I did not knw. When I went to my site there was a plesk note. It was the control panel of the new owner of the server. After writing to him he told me that they gaver him the control panel to my domain and server.

It is 12 days now after they promised to give me a full refund to the money. They said they are sory but the files are dead. "refund will proably take about a week to actually show on your credit card. The files are gone. Sorry, Ryan
ipowerweb".

Ipowerweb is evil

I have been an Ipowerweb member for over two years before the trouble started. Now I hate Ipower.

I build a community on Ipowerweb called Creatieland.com (it's Dutch).
We had about 80 members, when Ipowerweb pulled the plug.
We were BANNED. I could not get information on why we were banned, instead, when I asked, they reinstated us.

Then after a month or so, when all was running smoothly, it happened again. Offcourse I was furious and wrote them a rather inpolite email.
Their only reaction was, that they had received complaints about spam being sent through our domain. (NOTE: our domain did not contain any mailscripts that didn't have a fixed adress.)

We never spam. So I was mad again, but up to today I never got back even the account-settings of my members. They wouldn't let me connect to their server again.

I asked for proof, but was given the silent treatment.
Instead I got a notice that I had become a member for another year and they had taken it out of my creditcard automatically!
I asked them to kill the accounts and was told, I would be reimbursed, but now, three weeks after, I haven't seen any money back yet!

We tried to move the domain off course, BUT i-powerweb had locked the domain and it took about two weeks for them to respond and get it free.
By that time we didn't have any members anymore.
We desperately claimed a new domain www.creatieland.org and started re-building our community there, with a trustworthy local provider.

NOW, this is the funny :crap: part!
I get spam-email on the e-mail adres I provided to I-powerweb..
(Every e-mail adres I provide on the internet is unique, so I'll know who is spamming).
Apparantly I-powerweb has sold my e-mail adress after I stopped being a member!!!!

Needless to say, I'm not happy. I'm furious.
We spent 25.000,- euro on this new website and they just kill it, without as much as an excuse me.

Anyway, I just wanted to warn anybody who might try I-powerweb.
I'm not just some poor sap, who wanted a website, I do this kind of thing for a living and I'm mad as hell.

Sorry to hear about your experiences...My experience has taught me that the best route, it seems, is to go with a local provider when you're talking big money. Hope you have better luck with your new provider.

And everyone else keep in mind, 25.000 is not 25, it's 25,000. I had to reread that one more time to make sure :)
