Does anybody know if it is against the Internet Privacy Policy for Police and authorities to use the IRC network to come online and drop in on our coversations and such?

The problem we are having is Police are using the IRC network to find out where our parties are at and when they find out they raid them so we can not party, so was just wondering if anyone knew if it was against the IPP?
 
You have to put up a warning that they cant use it, if you dont then they are free to.
Even if you do put up a warning they can still get permission to do what they want if its important, they will only do that if its something serious though.
 
In Norway they can do that but they need a warrant to do the actual raid.

I heard the Norwegian police hired two girls to go to chat rooms to try and find pedophiles and try to catch them. Their comment was that people at an age of 30 or so could not chat the way teenage girls do and so needed actual teenagers to do it for them. So far they got hold of five people.
 
Glad thats working well, I hate to hear about people doing that in chat rooms...I mean abusing people and finding more to abuse.
i think the police should be allowed to do what they want without any restriction when it comes to something like that
 
Well what we did was a bunch of us chipped in and bought some servers, we have a network of around 2500 local users, anywhere from grade 7 (12 years old) to university (19+ years old) and we have hundreds of chat rooms for each group of people.. works great.. just when the police join channels, read the channel topic, it says where the party is and they come bust us usually.
 
You would think they have something better to do than go on chat to see where a party is going to happen to bust it...
Just tell people to IM/PM the ops or something for info on where the party is and make sure the ops know who is meant to know, then they can only tell the people that are meant to know ;)

Well its what we do now, but I was wondering wouldn't that be against the IPP for them to even come into our private chatrooms?
