Internet Explorer Troubles

Say what you want against Internet Explorer, I like it, use it. Whatever.

I'm not the one having problems - a neighbor is, and I can't figure out what the deal is.

Everytime she closes her Internet Explorer it "crashes" and pops up a bug report submission. I ran AdAware, Panda Antivirus (she has), Microsoft AntiSpyware, and attempted to reinstall Internet Explorer. But they have all failed to fix the issue. Any other ideas?

She has Windows XP Home with SP2 and IE6, all updates are applied, nothing else is having problems.

Thoughts?

It may be some virus or some pop up that is unheard of. Go to Task Manager and then processes and see if you see anything funny. You proboly didn't want to hear this, but FireFox will solve this. I personally like it much better, but if you like IE, its a free country. Best of luck

If I'm not mistaken, this is actually a random issue (plagues random folks), with SP2 for XP. In fact, I believe I read that somewhere (can't remember but will look).

Did she upgrade from 98, or did her computer come with XP?

I ran into this a few months ago. But danged if I can remember what I finally did to resolve the issue.

I know I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded IE6 again ... and it took a couple times reinstalling it. Also did a few Scandisk's and Defrag's ...

All I remember for sure is cursing Microsoft, Bill Gates and Windows an awful lot ... but I don't think that actually helped resolve the issue though :)

Oh yeah ... and I ended up uninstalling ZoneAlarm Pro & EZ AntiVirus. I went with the free AVG antivirus and am using XP's built in firewall.

Anyway ... wish I could remember which specific thing actually fixed it. Sorry

Peter

I had the same problem and had to redownload IE6.
When IE7 BETA 1 was Released I tested that and it's terriable so I am back and using firefox :)

Dubs. I did an online scan and a Panda AV scan. Nothing came up.
Mark. She got XP on it when she bought it from Dell.
Peter. I tried doing a scandisk and a System File Check, everything was happy. I did reinstall IE and reboot the PC more times than I care to remember.

And here's the thing - I press CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE and task manager doesn't load. It only shows who's logged in. I'm going to have to try logging her in as administrator when I get back home.

Exon,
I have used Panda for Virus scanning it is very useful; but for Spyware it doesn't seem to not be able to detect things some trojans for example.

Have you downloaded Spyware Doctor see if any infections are found on the system? It's very good for detecting those nasty infections that other scanners don't usually detect.

Regards,

Equonix,
No, I haven't tried Spyware Doctor, but I did install and run Microsoft AntiSpyware and AdAware and ran them, but they didn't remove much. I'll try SpyWare Doctor.
