interesting affiliate hosting

I was doing some research tonight on some keywords and found a word that I liked. I then did a little further digging on a particular site and found a phone number (with an ID beside it). Everything about the site screamed amateur or even "scam" for that matter, but the ID thing had be curious. I did a hunt in google for the phone number, and there are MILLIONS of links that show up, each one a hosting company, each one "different" but all with the same number.

Then the ID thing hit me - ok, these guys are affiliates of the company, or they're just MAJOR marketing :) So I hunted more to find out who exactly these resellers are going through. All the sites have the same basic information in terms of datacenter and server specs etc, but each have their own mailing address as being different and closed WHOIS information for the most part.

So - can anyone tell me anything about "1-800-574-0902" :) You'll see in google millions of hosting companies with the number, and what appears to be an ID number so when you call for support you give the ID number and they pretty much say "thank you for calling BOB's hosting" rather than a different ID number which is TOMS Hosting.

Just curious if anyone else stumbled upon these sites and if anyone knew who was behind it. It's a great affiliate program taken to the extreme, but it left me empty with no information about who was really behind the hosting.

Yep Interesting!

Most are using the same dns address, dnsX.supremecenter.com.

All roads lead back to LiquidNet from the info I have seen.

Look at liquidnetlimited.com under the "Resellers Panel" section.

Found this very interesting, especially
The project LiquidNet Ltd. is probably most famous for is ResellersPanel - the unique, fully-automated reseller hosting program, which boasts more than 85,000 resellers, and which makes it possible for everyone to resell web hosting and domain names without any investments. On the whole, 450,000 webmasters currently use LiquidNet Ltd.'s services, out of whom more than 35,000 have professional paid shared web hosting accounts and 105,000 hosted domains with us.
Will have to read more when I get a few minutes. Thanks. :)

Yeah everything I'm finding is leading back to LiquidNet also. Interesting numbers on that quote Steve - seems like many people using them and at the same time not too many people actually making money on it. Or is it that there's 35,000 paid hosting accounts that belong to the 85,000 resellers. A little hard to decipher.

Still - their marketing concept and implementation is great!

Well here is the kicker on why there are so many resellers and so few hosting accounts.

You sign up for a free resellers account and LiquidNet pays you the difference of what your price is to their whole sale ressellers price. It doesn't appear any monthly fees exist.

From here:
How It Works
You have come across our free reseller program and wonder how it works and whether it is worth starting a reseller business? First off, it is absolutely free to become our reseller, there are no billing or start up fees. You can resell pre-configured shared and advanced hosting services and even create your own hosting packages with pricing defined entirely by you. We will pay you the difference between our wholesale prices and your custom ones. That difference will form your profit and will be applicable for every single hosting account order, renewal, domain registration or service upgrade. Each month we will send you your earnings by a payment method selected by you.

I listened to their video and it sounded interesting. The numbers seemed strange to me as well, but that's because there are no fees to sign on. 35,000 paid hosting accounts is an appreciable number. :)

:) I"m sure any of us would welcome a chunk of the 35,000 accounts! Believe me, I don't want it ALL - staff would cripple under it, but a fair size chunk for an early boost in 2010 would be nice - say 3-5,000 spread out over the next 4 months ;)

I wonder about two things concerning this company?

1) What is the quality of service they provide for shared web hosting?

2) What is their retention rate of keeping customers?

Well, I suspect a lot of prospects sign on and never sell anything. Churn is probably high, but with all the billable add-ons, their model appears financially sound. The parent provider would never sustain damage, rather the affiliate since customer support is in their name. It's a numbers strategy that has apparently worked for them.
