Intel P4 HT vs AMD64 FX Hypertransport

I had this question in mind, would you preffer to get an Intel Pentium 4 (Latest) 3.2Ghz with HT or would you go for an AMD Athlon 64 FX 2.4Ghz with 1600Mhz FSB?

Simple but it's not. This new AMD can run 64 bit programs and the P4 doesn't.

Thanks :)

This is something I know nothing about.. I am thinking I would rather have the AMD for the future I guess.. I really know nothing about this yet

I don't think 64 bit is really that important at this stage, it isn't used properly yet and really isn't needed.
Having HT is a lot better for a hosting server I think.
You won't need many 64 bit programs on a hosting server anyway, most people only run basic services and a few extra scripts.

You could always get an AMD 64 bit in the future, by the time it is properly utilised you will probably need another server anyway ;)

Very true, but this will be for my PC, I'm slacking my old AMD 1800 :D

Yeah for now I would say the p4, but for the future to come, who knows how long though, the 64bit.. although thinking about it.. by the time it is almost necessary to have a 64bit, there will be better systems out there..

Well, in the future the AMD would be a lot better than the Intel P4.

I'd have to say the Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz with HT will do fine for a personal computer. The average joe at this point in time doesn't need more; maybe in the future, maybe not. But even so, how long will it take?
I saw an interesting documentary on television, and it said that the average person will never need 64 bit processors. However, those who do graphics design and other things will. It really depends on what you will be using your personal computer for. Just surfing the net, and other simple things, or doing heavy graphical work, making flash files and so on?

I'm actually getting a new computer pretty soon myself, and am going to get an Intel Pentium 4 (Only 3Ghz with HT mind you), as I don't feel that I need a 64 bit computer at this moment in time. Will I ever? Maybe, as I do do quite a bit of graphical work, however if I find in the future I need one, then I will buy another computer as by then, as Gordy said, they'll most likely have something better on the market - and what's available today will be cheaper.

Ah right Francisco, well then, as Anjay saisd, I don't think there is any need at all to get a 64 bit processor for your home computer, not now anyway.

I used an AMD 64 bit laptop, and it didn't have anything over a normal laptop, there is just no need for it yet.

Just get a computer that will do everything you need, I will be getting a laptop soon but won't be getting anything powerful because I will be using it for about 3 things, internet, word and dreamweaver.
I just need something simple to run those and no point in going for the dearest laptop when I don't need it for anything.
