I'm installing cPanel as we speak. It's great fun.

I hope this is not off topic.
I'd just like to share with you all my experiences with installing cPanel.

All I had to do was type in a few commands and it does the rest.
What with all the "." and "+" signs it is really rather interesting.
How clever these program and software developers must be. :)

I do admire their skills. I'm thoroughly enjoying watching this.
Sad, I know. :P But I've never installed cPanel before and it's great fun. :)

Once you have it installed ...
* run through the initial config
* setup as necessary
* do the tweak settings
* install your chosen addons
* run a forced update to the latest release (or whichever version you prefer)
* turn off automatic updates
* recompile/rebuild apache and php

Then take out the hard-drive, and use a copy use of that to make your future installs in minutes :D

Thanks for the advice.
I cannot take out the hard drive though. As the server is in the USA and I'm here in the UK.
I can remote reboot and all that.
And the server is fully managed by the US staff.

cPanel is installed now by the way.
The license is pending activation by the company who sold me the server. Apparently they only activate licenses once a week.
So I'm using a trial license for now. I hope they activate it soon.

And you will know by its usage that it is the No. 1 panel with some great functionality. You can manage whole server through its interface which others do not provide. A big difference.

Sounds like you are having fun indeed. Any chance you have imaging functionality with whatever product or setup you use to communicate with your servers? It really would help to have an image or some way to replicate exactly what you just did for future servers or quick DR restores. It may be fun now but man does it get mundane after hundreds of them :)

I have set up more servers then I can count over the years (more for others then for myself) and I still get enjoyment out of it.

Just something about setting up a server does it for me lol
