I bought the rights to several web templates at eBay

I just bought the rights to some web templates at eBay. I was the only one who bid which I think is strange. But I'm beginning to wonder if it's a joke. When I got the download there was 514 web templates there and I only won the auction with $5. The auction was well hidden though. The name of the auction was not one usually searches for. It came with some domain name software. I did not actually find out about the templates before I read the small print. So apparently I know have 514 templates which I have the right to sell. I don't think it's a joke because the guy has a good reputation at eBay. His web page is http://nrghosts.com/ but the only thing there is a logo. Do you guys know anything about this guy/gal?

Should I e-mail him and ask him to send me written documentation stating that I have the right to resell this stuff? I'm willing to pay for postage of the documentation etc. It may be a good idea.

No you're look much more professional. Fancy telling me where you got them :). Might start selling web templates on the internet.

TBH if you've picked up 500 templates for $5 I expect that you've been scammed as if you think about that they've been paid $0.01 per template, and the amount of time/cost that must go into even the crappiest template the figures don't add up

gooooogle, I got mine off ebay. It is 50 templates, and only 35 of them come with the HTML. It looks legit on what I got and have given them away to a couple of my resellers.

You might want to check if they are templates from templatemonster Robert.
I know you cant resell those and those templates look similar to the kind on TM but there are a lot of sites like TM now.

I got an e-mail from him. He says he bought the master reseller for the templates and are selling on reseller rights to lots of people to a low price. Apparently he was expecting a lot more because it was an auction but I think that only I'm the one who found them.

Sounds like you made out rather good then Gooogle.

I am amazed with some of the work that goes into the sites on template monster. Those sites are rather nice and they sell for like $60 (half a days work of pay at my office). Sites are getting way too cheap these days.

Vovex they get sold 50 times each. thats the diffrence.

Each to his own I guess... but if you buy a templatemonster template just know that there are going to be ten sites exactly like yours around soon. if there arn't already.

Best,
Eugene.

(By the way... gooooogle, I think its a scam. I saw a lot of this before.)

I know they sell them 50 times or more.... it just seems like a stupid idea... why would you want to pay for a site that someone else already has. A business web site is an impression of your business. If your site looks like someone elses... I would get the impression that your business runs like everyone elses. So what is there to set you apart?? Know what I'm saying.

I also hate how people purchase nice looking templates and then add their own content + pictures and it looks completely like ****. The fonts/colors dont match etc..

Well yeah... I was just saying because you mentioned templatemonster.

I see no point in getting a template from them... yes they are cheap, but as we both already said are oversold, and overused.

a cutom template or a custom design is the way to go. :)

(and thats what I do as a webdesigner)

Best,
Eugene.

But people who just started web stuff want to buy something cheep to try out and so something like that would be ideal. But I think you're right in saying that no professionals buy such templates. They probably get custom templates made for them or make them themselves.

I lot of people buy templates from template monster for running a business site.
I thought some of their designs were ok, then I looked at the other designs, and they were ok, and so were the other 100 pages with designs that all look so similar  that and the fact that so many people will have to same template totally put me off thinking about using TM.

I got a custom design done for my business site so I wont have to worry about others having the same design :)

Yeah but as I said someone completely new to the internet wants to make a small site. They are no good at web design and are not going to pay several hundred dollars. So something cheep is great until they find out if they want to buy a custom one.

gooooogle if your templates are similiar to turnkey's or are one of the eBay packages, the designs are most likely from a package of pirated TemplateMonster and BoxedArt designs.

Several months back one user sold the set of 35 designs for $100 with full resell rights. In normal eBay fashion this spread and you could soon buy not only the first 35 but numerous other designs for as little as $3.00.

The problem comes with the first seller and several other that had added TM designs to the pack. The sellers do not own resell rights. TM and BoxedArt have been in contact with eBay, but the problem is so wide spread they will likely never be able to track down all the buyers.
