I bought a DAB radio

Well I just got home from town ten minutes ago. I've bought a DAB radio with the money I got for my birthday (which was quite a while ago). It's an Pure Evoke-1 (amazon link) and I have to say that it is the best buy I've made this year. I'm amazed at the sound quality of it. When I turned it on it spent three seconds scanning through radio channels and then promptly organized them in alphabetical order for me (no more messing with frequencies). I just thought I would tell everyone about this and recommend that anyone who live in a location supported by DAB (entire GB should be supported within a few years) and you listen to radio a lot you should by all means buy this.

If you are put of by the fact that there is only one loudspeaker then that is not a problem. There is a specially made loudspeaker which you can buy and connect to it so that you get steario.

I've got a feeling that I'll be listening to a lot of radio  :D

I have been interested in buying a digital radio for a while, was going to buy one but ended up getting a full system with an normal radio.

I'm positive I will buy one within the next few years, but I have been listening to less and less radio recently.
Used to listen to a station called Talk Sport a lot (Used to be talk radio but has a lot of sport so changed the name) but only listen to it about once a week on avg. now.

It's meant to be close to CD quality, but I have never heard a digital radio, is it anything like a CD?
Any problems at all with crackling and the normal background noise you get on the radio?

That depends on the radio cahnel. Some people broadcast at 192kbs while others go as far down as 64kbs. It depends on the people who broadcast it.

All the music channels here in Norway are excellent.

I have not had a single problem with this. I've not heard any background noise.

My wife bought me one for my brirthday (a few months ago now) This one has an FM & a DAB tuner giving the best of both worlds. It's portable so I can have Planet Rock while I'm in the garage DIY'ing :)

Sound isn't bad, however, it sounds really cr*p when you get a high error rate, but that's to be expected :)

Generally we get reasonable reception, but FM can be really bad, when the FM is really bad, then the DAB error rate tends to go up as well. Overall the DAB is better than the FM, but some channels use a really low bit rate and are nowhere near CD quality. If you're a serious HiFi type, then you'll probably be disapointed.

It is after all just an FM radio (on a different frequency band) with a digital decoder stuck on the front, so is suseptable to the same interference as your normal TV / radio signal :)

I live in an earia in Norway which borders to the capital Oslo. This means that where I live has excellent coverage for DAB. My signal strength has never gone under 90%. Also none of the Norwegian music channels broadcast under 128kbs and my favorite (mPeTre) transmits in 192kbs.
