People will pay money to advertise on other websites. How much money they will pay will be a factor of many things:

1. How popular is the site? (traffic stats)
2. WHat kind of advertisement is it?LinK? Banner?
3. If banner, what size banner?
4. If banner, how many impressions?
5. Is the site related to their own site (It would be useless to advertise webhosting on an adult site for example)

If you want to sell advertisements on your site, first of all it must be worth advertising on. Advertisers will want to see a return on investment. What do they get out of advertising there? Is there any chance someone will click the ad and visit their site? More importantly, is there a chance they will by something from the site? If your site gets users that are "targeted" for the advertiser then it'd be worth it for them.

To start with, I would like to let you know that you'll probably get a more qualified response at PromotionTalk.com forum, but just to give you an introduction, almost all companies get paid by advertisers aor advertising agencies they deal with, who pay them commission.

They can either get paid by the number impressions, clicks, sales, etc. There are plenty of advertising networks available for publishers, but to get qualified in the best, they'll most likely look at web site's popularity, content and other features.

Then they provide you with a code you should place on your site and you're done - you'll be able to monitor your revenue results in real time through the publisher's control panel.

You can also go alone and find advertisers on your own by dealing with them directly. In this case you need your banner management system set up, merchant system to accept payments, as well as improve and keep up the quality flow of content. The return you get is bigger though, but the headache is bigger as well.

Hope this helps.

EvilHaider, m8 thanks for the suggestions...

AdSense is an affiliate program that pays you when a visitors to your site clicks on the ad displayed on your page. From personal experience, as well as thousands of other publishers, claim AdSense to be the most profitable affilaite system ever.

Since AdSense is able to display relative to each page advertising, the CTR (click through rate) is much higher, which results in bigger commissions.

The lowest cost of 1 click I've experienced was $0.27 - the highest - $14. It depends on the category (content of your site) and competition level of the field.

Getting in AdSense is NOT very hard. If you have a great site, great content - you have big chances of being accepted.

Best,
