How many programs do you normally run at once?

How many programs do you normally run at once on your computer?

i usually have a good few running, at least 7 and its 12 at the minute.
Not counting processes etc

Just apps that you have installed yourself that you are running

I use the side task bar (I know - almost everyone uses it on the bottom )

Anyway, I usually leave everything open until the row fills up - Windows then starts a second row and cuts all the tiles in half - once that happens, I start closing stuff... dont know why, but those little half tiles just annoy me

Well, on Linux you have 4 desktops. Then programs like ssh, mozilla, etc have tabs where you can have multiple instance of the program running but under 1 program. So if I were to run 10 windows of Mozilla then I would have 1 program with 10 tabs. Once you get use to it you hate IE on Windows

I use mozilla firebird on windows Robert.
Using IE would have far too many windows open, I have up to about 10 sites open at once sometimes, its 3 at the minute but Im not doing too much.

Before, my PC was around 1ghz so I didnt want to open too many thing, it could handle it but ran better with less.
This is more than twice the speed and has a load of RAM so I can do a lot more without even thinking about it

Hi Turnkey - Ive wanted to make the switch to Linux on my laptop for quite some time now - but - just not possible - too many proprietay apps that just wont run on linux (plus the company that gave me this laptop and expects me to do work for them, just will not support it or allow me to use it) - makes me a very sad user

I like to multitask about 4 at minium and 15 at the most. I use Trillian so that turns 5 programs into 1

NO Programs. Some of my programs run in my taskbar (i thnk thats what you call it) So they are running in the background sorta say.

IE (3 windows)
Winamp
Live Tech Support
