How many hours of sleep do you get each night?

Until last year I would stay up to 3-4 AM and wake-up at 10-11 AM. By the time I start working - the half of the day is gone.

It has changed now. I would try to get 7-8 hours of sleep daily: 12 to 8 am. No afternoon naps.

Generally I go to sleep somewhere around 10:00 am, but depending on the day it can vary quite a bit. I generally sleep 7-8 hours, but as you can imagine this can vary as well. Usually I don't manage to do anything productive until I'm finally alone with my PC. I came to think that working at night is probably a defense mechanism that occurred more or less naturally. There's nothing that can interrupt me at night, so I get to do whatever it is that I want or need to do (except go shopping or things like that :D). Also, it's a lot more quiet: no traffic noise.

No "afternoon" naps for me either.

What made you change the habit ?
Good question. A mixture of few things:

- Health. I started to realize how unhealthy my schedule was. I would have headaches, I would not sleep well, my moods were horrible. Most importantly, I started to suffer physically. I play tennis on a professional level so my practice sessions were often cut short because I had no energy. My game deteriorated. I feel much much better now that I go to bed early and wake up early. I can even be found on a tennis court at 8:30 am at times - something that is unheard of for everyone who knows me.

- Business. My productivity was very low until I started to get healthy sleep. I would be found crashing at my desk, I had low motivation to keep executing various tasks. I also realized that lack of sleep equals blurry results. In addition, the world works 9 to 5. If I start working at 12 in the afternoon, that means half the working day is over and less things can be accomplished.

- Counseling. I spent a few sessions with a therapist (due to failing productivity and poor results) who helped me find a healthier way to function.

What about you, Ali?

Best,

I was the same way and somewhat am still. I get about 5-7 hrs of sleep and it varies. With college and my personal life, it's quite tough to make time for everything. I don't think i'm doing too good health wise and I need to get into shape soon...

Just remember that HEALTH is important and sleep is too. I guess I'm sort of boggled with so much stuff and issues, I've don't have the extra energy to push my self to become more healthy.

I usually go to sleep around 3:00-4:00AM and wake up at 10:00-11:00AM, it's a very bad habit I am planning on changing it to 12:00AM - 7:00,8:00AM. On the days I go to sleep early (at least try) I wake up during the night and unable to sleep again until the morning which completely destroys my day.

I could live on 6 hours however I would prefer 7-8 hours.

Too bad all the good shows air late at night and I'm not talking about the 8 Adult Channels that are on my digital box :P

Cal, Ali, Marks, seems like you are all in the same boat of having problems with your sleep and, yes - discipline! The same boat I was until I recently.

Feel free to use the this wallpaper I have on my desktop. It motivates me and keeps me focused on my priorities. Of course everyone have different keywords that would define your success, so you can make your own.

Best,

Best,
haha, that's great I think I might use that ;)

I target around the eight to nine hour range and usually get that much. I am one who likes to sleep in occasionally, but I agree that I function better when I get to bed earlier than 2-3 AM in the morning. 11-1 is a good target window with 11-12 being ideal for me.

It varies.

I can get as little as 2 hours of sleep on average for a few weeks at a time, but most of the year I get an average of about 4 hours of sleep.

The rest of the time is spent working or traveling for work.

I don't really mind, though.

I used to sleep when I felt I needed to but I now try to keep to sleeping at least 8 hours a night but with the phone being on all the time I can quite often get interrupted by support tickets.

Quite surprising the amount of people that can manage on so little sleep.
