If you're planning for global use go for a .com, if you're planning to target a country go for country specific tld like .co.uk/.in/.us/.eu or so on.

That's a great question. Most SEO experts believe it has some relevance. I think the key to SEO is finding what keywords or keyword phrases surfers are currently typing in to find products or services that match what your business offers, then incorporate those keywords into the content of your site - in a manner that flows and adds value to the end user.

There goes Steve again going to win another month for having so much knowledge. Got to love HD!!!! The question is can I beat you next month????

I think that domain name is nothing compared to importance of your content keywording. If your site is not optimized for keywords, good domain name can't save you.

I assume that web site content that is what most important for the web site in terms of the SEO. Of course domain name can contain keyword. But that is not enough

exactly....does the domain name even matter?

What matters is how radical/dynamic your website along with the key words associated with your Domain.

I think that domain name is more important in regard how easy can people remember it. That will work more towards increasing visitors than importance of some keyword contained in domain name.

Agreed. Obviously .com is preferred, and keywords have a lot to do with it. You've first got to get them to your site, then keep them there and get them to come back..

Get them there: Keywords, back links, advertising, etc..
Keep them there: Interesting content, valuable info and services, etc..
Get them to come back: Easy to remember domain, a "real" reason to com back :), etc..

The biggest thing from my understanding is determining your target and pushing your site there way. I'm by no means a SEO expert, in fact I do very little SEO, but just think about it.. Put yourself in your target's shoes and go from there..

It is not so much important because it can't hurt you too much. It will definitely help you out a lot in regards to the specific keywords in the domain name.

I always use .com domains. I don't think that affects the SEO aspect, but .com is still so much more recognizable and memorable than .net, .us, etc.

I find that a company name and a domain name should fit the company and worry less about the SEO. With links, content, keywords, and blah blah blah. I have heard that age of domain and keywords in your domain are important.

The only issue with that is, if the keywords in your domain does not brand your domain with the people who are actually looking for your site, it becomes a mute point.

Look for a domain that represents your company and your customers will understand. Don't worry about Search engines so much.

well name also matters

what ever extension you use it works but is you use ; com : it optimize organically in google thats the advantage

TLD .com is always my preferred one. If my name is already taken with .com I'll then try it with .net. I rarely go with any other TLDs, because they are much less popular, unless I'm trying to reap the benefits from their true intention. For example, for starting an organization of some sort I would go with .org, etc.
