How important is customer service to you when picking a webhost?

Well almost every single web host in existence seems to offer at least some degree of customer service, and quite naturally the quality of this service would vary from company to company.

Within the world of web hosts, as well as outside it we have all probably been subjected to some less than desirable customer service, along with some that we found at least to be acceptable.

Now when you pick out a potential webhost, how important is the customer service to you in the big picture?

Personally I consider it VERY important, but my level of disappointment would depend on exactly how much money I was paying with that webhost.

How do the rest of you feel on this?

Hi,

Being in this field, I know how important CUSTOMER SERVICE is. If the customer is not satisfied with your support this year definitely he will not stick around with you the following year. And YES the level of customer support given is definitely differentiated with the hosting he takes.

But it is not that we do not give a good support to our shared hosting clients.

Customer service is extremely important. Afterall, if it were not for customer service, it would just be another hosting company offering the same thing every other hosting company offers.

Level of customer service and uptime are the only real differentiating aspects of a hosting company. Everything else is common and minor compared to those.
 
I choose my vendors based-on customer services. It's especially important for us, cause we live thousands miles far from our systems.
 
Customer service should be one of the most important factors for determining a provider. Reliablility would be first in my opinion but these both are crucial for a success business. If things go wrong, who wants to wait for delayed responses. Timely responses are important.
 
Customer server is the important thing. If its not perfect will face many problem and not only that if the tech support is not good means the hosting com is not good. Now lots off companies are in Hosting field.

When choosing a new web host make sure they have a Toll Free phone number and a Live Chat option for support. These are great ways to communicate when you need help.
 
I agree that a toll-free support line, and live chat are nice options, but I don't think they are necessary, as long as the method of support they do offer is handled responsibly and timely.

Again though, if they do offer live chat and a toll-free number, test them both out first, and make sure they're available to you more often than not. If they are, then you have found a bonus.
 
Customer Service is the most important part of a hosting company. With the customers, the hosting companies wouldn't be in business and we sure wouldn't be talking about it here. If excellent customer service is not provided, then something is not right with the company. We see companies all the time that have to pack their bags because their level of customer service was not good enough.
 
If a hosting company has no solid customer service what do they really have? Nothing. With the market over run by fly by night hosts service must come first.

Hosting is really a service based industry.
 
Very well said everyone, and I agree with most of what the rest of you have mentioned.

Funny enough, I have come across some FREE or extremely cheap webhosts who still had amazing customer service quality, while I used some premium hosts with putrid service.

It just goes to show, a high price does not ensure quality customer service! :)

You can always expect good support from an avg web host while the big once can be little picky, mainly coz their customer base is too big and they dnt mind hvn several unhappy customers under their belt, but these days when ur unhappy, u just go and do everything to ruin the reputation of those companies lolz, you can see plenty of example in this forum along,...so even BIg Hosting companies has to think twice when it comes to quality support.....
 
Honestly the quality of the customer service is probably the single most important thing there is for me. I cannot abide by some of the half cut services that I have had to recently deal with. I now research online to see what people think of them long before money is handed over.
 
It's like how everyone complains about Dreamhost, when I can think of a number of more expensive hosts which offer worse, or non-existent customer service, and Dreamhost is still the one they choose to rag on the most. Not that they are perfect, I just don't think they are too bad when faced up against some of their competitors.
 
Customer service is sure very important, especially when you are facing problems. I think no one like waiting for more than 1 day and get a reply from CS saying: "I am sorry, we can't do anything, we have to close your account...".

That why I always prefer those hosting providers who have live chat.

But, IMO, customer service is not as important as server quality, network speed, and uptime.
