How did you get sales

You offered coupons, cut prices, posted on boards, updated your site. What next shoud a webhosting company do to get sales. How do you do it.

1. Set yourself apart from the other million hosts out there (easier said than done).

2. Get an advertising budget (PPC, banners, ect..) and spread it around the web.

3. Keep posting offers on the marketplace of popular hosting forums.

4. Spell check your website's content.

5. GET AN SSL CERTIFICATE (HTTPS) FOR YOUR CLIENT AREA AND CHECKOUT PROCESS, EVEN IF YOU USE 3RD PARTY PAYMENT PROCESSORS.

6. Offer great service and support to your current clients.

Take care of all these and you will start to see more clients.

Be careful offering coupons and cutting prices. If you're constantly doing this, you're devaluing your product. I've seen too many hosts offer 20% off, directly on their sites as an almost permanent feature. If the client is already on your site, rarely do you need to offer a discount (unless you're trying to push a particular package).

Too many places offer 75% off type packages and think it's a good way of getting clients - and maybe it is - but if the client is only paying you $2.00 at the end of the day, you're not going to be able to pay the bills. You're better off targeting a different industry nice and dominating it.

I agree with Conor on this offering coupons and cutting prices does not pay the bills at the end of the day.

you can offer set trial periods instead so your services can be tried before they buy.

I agree with the 2 dollar accounts. Cheap can attract customers, but you also have to keep in mind upgrade paths for customers. If your loss leader is 2 dollars and the next plan up is 7 dollars, customers may just leave rather than upgrade. Course that costs them time and money to have it done as well.

Aside from the things mentioned, what I try to constantly look at are:

1. List of existing customers and/or legit testimonials - especially if the client is well-known, it adds to the credibility of the provider, kind of like the bandwagon effect, and;

2. Additional customer service - I believe a little client courtesy goes a long way. Try to create a warm and friendly impression on your website that says "I'm not just here to sell"

You would be surprised how quickly word of mouth can go when its all local. I have no issues striking up a conversation about work when I am out on the town with friends or even my husband. Keep business cards on you at all times. :)

Ask your current clients if they could write up reviews about how their services are with you and to post them on forums like this and WHT.

Another good way to get clients is by word of mouth, tell your friends and family members about what kind of services you offer and tell them to tell their friends etc. The best way to get clients is by word of mouth.

Putting ads on forums / blogs could help to , be sure to have the ads on the niche you go for meaning if you host personal sites then you'd want to have ads on a site about personal stuff.
