Hostopia aquires aplus.net - customer service goes down hill

Anyone else seeing the fallout from the new acquisition by Hostopia?

I've always heard decent things about Hostopia but the forums, and our helpdesk seem to be littered with complaints from users that were previously clients of Aplus.net and are suffering through the Christmas Season with downed websites, old backups being restored and files locked from editing (due to the change of equipment I imagine).

Just curious if anyone else is seeing any sort of spike due to the acquisition?

To be fair, Aplus has always been going down hill. They are not merging domains4ever into another system; which is making the entire process messy. They are pulling domains from the root servers the day it expires vs doing a expired page or etc like everyone else out there.

First of all, I never even heard of this acquisition taking place. Secondly, as far as I am concerned, I did not face any such problem you are talking about.

In July 2009 there were talks that they were going to take over, and would then be moving a number of customers, but it wasn't until the end of November that we started seeing people showing up at our doorstep asking to be moved away to our service. I did some hunting on the web here and found a "message from the president" on November 27th documenting the move and the "upgrade" process they would be implementing - http://aplus.net/blog/message-from-the-president-2.html

Looks like there's some unrest in the comments on the blog, and in particular their forums seem to be littered with complaints - http://forum.aplus.net/forumdisplay.php?f=13

I really hadn't paid any attention to their forums until just this minute - hopefully they get things back on board. Granted, with 80,000 customers they're going to have some that complain, but it sure has been interesting riding the wave here on our end. Moving the sites has been awful as they regulated the FTP traffic so low that we were only getting 20kb/s connections on file transfers at times. Upload, no problem, but downloading from them they caped it on a few accounts that I've helped anyway.

Fingers crossed they get back on track, and if not, hopefully everyone else here sees the traffic headed to their doors!

I am a designer hired to redesign a site that is currently hosted on aplus.net. I'm building the new site using Wordpress. I installed it using aplus.net's auto-installer (used similar things on other hosts with never a problem, installed it manually on hosts with no problems) but the installation is totally screwed up. Can't upgrade or install plug-ins, paths are screwed up, it's a mess. The project is totally gated. I first called their customer support on Dec. 30 and am still awaiting a response, much less a resolution! And this is after having it tagged as high priority and escalated to a supervisor. I'm building the new site now on a separate host and once it's done my client can kick that dog to the side of the road. I have never experienced such horrendous service from a webhost.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience with aplus!

That is terrible... I'm sorry you are having such a bad experience over there.
The saddest part about it is I bet there are probably hundreds and hundreds of people just like you, going through these issues.
It is frightening for a small business owner, I'm sure.
You guys need dependability. And you just aren't getting it with that company from the sound of things. Good luck and I hope it gets taken care of soon for you.
