Oksana:*like i said your account is overloading our server! and we cant do any refund
Arash Rustami:*why will i not get my money back?

Arash Rustami:*but isn't it blackmailing.... upgrade or cancel.... and no refund.... do u guys have business ethics ???
Oksana:*well, actually we don't refund money to the customers who overload the server.
Arash Rustami:*so u mean you host only those website which dont become popular???
Oksana:*no, you are not right, you see, you overload the server and very many other customers on this server suffer from your overload, that's why we recommend you to upgrade to VPS. Or we will have to suspend your account constantly and delete your files.
Arash Rustami:*but i need to know only a simple thing.... if website becomes popular, that will certainly use more CPU,, so you guys must upgrade your computers instead of suspending customers accounts....

If that conversation did in fact happen, then its horrendous customer service.

As far as everyone else is concerned, people who do a little bit of their research/homework before signing up to companies offering 100s and 1000s of GB of data transfer monthly for $5-10, know that most of these companies are hiding behind their TOS and AUP where it states that if your site "monopolizes" CPU, it will be suspended without refund. What they mean by that is up to their own interpretation.

Best,

supprise there is no refund policy.
usualy on hosting that i come across, sample is bluehost. they are giving prorated refund, based on remaining months.

Charles, I think the idea is that Hostony sees this customer as the one breaking the usage policy by dominating server resources.

When hosting companies offer packages labeled by hosting community as as "overselling", it opens a whole world to interpretation of what would a company consider as "resource-intensive" or "server-overloading" websites they can't handle (or don't want to handle). Isn't that what they call these websites that become popular and require more bandwidth that they can sell?

Best,

Agreed.

But that just sucks for anyone to be treated like that, seeing how you put in so much money. Like Artashes said, you should always do your homework, and find our what other users have said about that particular host. 10 to 1, says that if you would researched you would of found more reviews about then, in which this could of been avoided.

Now, you are stuck in a dilemma. Either you have to upgrade or cancel and lose money. By the way, what is their money back guarantee like?

i spend 200$ in this server.
You bought shaeed hosting, and prepaid fora a certain period of time. Overloading the server is (with any shared hosting provider) a breach of the terms, and, in many cases, you're not entitled to refund once the money back guarantee period is over. All this should be detailed in the TOS that you agreed to (clearly or in legalese).

if website becomes popular, that will certainly use more CPU,, so you guys must upgrade your computers instead of suspending customers accounts....
Actually, no. At the end of the day, their reasoning is pretty simple. A server, which apparently your site needs, will cost hundreds of dollars per month. You will not, at least in the foreseeable future, get a whole server's worth of computing power for under $10 per month.

Server upgrades are possible up to a point, and hosts do not upgrade servers in situations such as this one.

Disk space and data transfer and only two of the dimensions of hosting packages. CPU and memory usage are two others, but (misleading as it may be) you won't see them featured anywhere when it comes to shared hosting marketing. You are now learning an important lesson, and, unfortunately, you're learning it the hard way.

If I may ask, what type of site do you have, how many page views and how many simultaneous users online does it have? It may be that you still have a good chance to host in a shared hosting environment, just not in Hostony's.

The host's representative should have been a bit more understanding and helpful given the sensitive nature of such measures.

Indeed. The only bad thing about this is the customer service. Other than that i tend to belive that they were right in what they were saying.

I don't want to comment on the overload, however, that is nuts how their CS representatives treated you. I'd go elsewhere so fast.

I had the same issue with another hosting company, except my site wasn't hogging the server. It turned out it was someone's proxy site and the host refused to shut their account. So I was stuck on a bogged server for 1 month.

BTW davidweb, what are you hosting that is causing such a massive server load?

David,
I am so sorry for your issue. Many companies like this upset me because it puts a bad rep on the industry. I am sure you could find someone on these forums to help you with your situation. If you have any problems or question please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks

thanks

hey guys thanks a lot for replying to my post!
the only reason that made me to go with hostony.com was becuz of the price!now i have learned that low price is not everything.
again im thankfull to all of u guys!

Answer!

no!
my site was not even poplar!
i didnt had that many visitors!
and i heard that they did the same thing with another person!
so all i can say is from no on if i want to get a new hosting i'll search for it at least 3 or 4 days to see how is there hosting (Customer Servise is firs to me)

Well you should've asked them for the resource usage report from WHM and you should've also asked what file(s) were generating this.
If they would've refused to show you that info then that would mean you have been given the boot for a different reason.

Most shared hosts will suspend your account if you overload the server, it doesnt matter what bandwidth you have, if your site gets lets say 25 visitors online at any one time your site is guaranteed to use up the CPU, especially on a shared account, i would recommend getting a VPS, you will have the same problem everywhere

JaguarPC does a really good job with customer service and support. I've not had any major problems or significant downtime since I've been with them over the last 4 months.

They have a specific plan for high volume websites that is affordable.

Well depends on the script you use. We hosts a few vbulletin websites with even 60-80 users online at peak hours with less than 5% cpu/memory. Poorly written scripts would bring the server down with even a handfull of users online, but if you have a good script (vbulletin, ipb, etc) it won't be a problem even for a strict shared enviroment.

David,
Remember that you should not have to sacrafice price either. There are those low price companies out there that take advantage of the consumer.
