Hosting an eCommerce Site on a Free Host!!

Ok a friend is trying to commit what I would consider business suicide. She's hosting an eCommerce site with a free host, and already its been down twice.

How can I convince her to pay a little out and get something better-or should I just watch and wait for her to panic?

Oh, geez - that's crazy! I've run sites on free hosts before but not a full scale ecommerce site as you absolutely need that uptime. Perhaps you could google some information for her on how often people have problems and what happens to their customer base when it does? If she reads it for herself, maybe she'll realize she needs a better host.

This sounds like something she's going to have to learn for herself. She'll have to get fed up with the situation...and then when she does, suggest your own hosting service. She'll know the people behind it, so she'll have a greater confidence that she won't be treated like an income statistic; and she'll have a better feeling that she won't be sold a bill of goods: she'll be given honest, quality service.

You've given your opinion, now just sit back and let her learn things on her own. Sometimes, people just have to learn things the hard way. She's got to see the value in having a host that's always up, always accessible, and stable. No need for you to beat your head against a wall.

Setup a couple of accounts at unialert and logicreach for her, to let her see how her site performs while she's not online/checking the site. :)

ldcdc I like the idea of doing that and might just do that, but I think like Lesli said and I already suspect, I'm going to have to sit back and play spectator here. I think she thinks I'm being pushy, that I have an agenda, and doesn't realise that I have her best interests at heart.

If nothing else I can watch how often it goes down, see how it does and see if she's being honest when I ask how its doing. I fear that she'll try to simply save face. Ah well, this lesson will be learned.

If he is in the panic will it make you happy?
Better invest few dollars in not huge web hosting account and be sure that downtime will be twice a year not twice a day :smash:

No, it won't make me happy but it would allow me to guide her to something better. I want this to work for her-she's put a lot of work into it (other than looking into her hosting choices) and she deserves to have it work out for her, not fail because of a simple but fundamental mistake.

Hosting an E-commerce site using a Free Host server is highly unrecommended.
simply because you cant blame the hosting company for the Down time issues,as its a Free host.
more over some free hosting companies suppliment their income by providing(hiding )affiliate links and other types of links in their Code.this is not ok with search-engines,if search engines find this out, then your site is going to suffer and not the hosting comany.
so it is better not to go for a free host to save the extra dollar, because its going to be a case of "penny wise pound foolish".
Try to go for a reliable hosting solutions provider.
