Graphics Card Woes

Ok, here is the lowdown

New computer arrived with ATI radeon 9800 pro card. It was great. Ran tests, ran games, ran programs all seemed fine. Performance on top quality perfect.

Installed MS Office. Said to restart. After restarting, XP wouldnt boot. I did F8 and selected Last Good Configuration. XP Loaded fine, and everything else was fine but the drivers for the 9800 pro were lost. I reinstalled them from the CD and restarted and things seemed ok, but now 3d graphics are really jerky, not smooth at all, low FPS rates and is useless compared to how it was before.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks

Did you lose direct x when you rebooted? That happened to me once. Older versions of direct x made before the card often makes them jerky. I experienced similar events once before. I just installed direct x all over again.

Direct X will be fine the 9800 is the most recent and made to support DX 9.1 - start XP up with the default 'orrible' drivers it puts in go to the ATI site and get the latest Certified MS drivers for XP - if they fail it might be motherboard related (AGP) the 9800 is 8x AGP is the motherboard 8X of 4X (might need to get the MB driver updates), if the ATI drivers don't work try the Gigabyte version their pretty bomb proof, knock a couple of the test figures but solid. - Oh and make sure you have BIOS changed to assign an IP and not to cache anything video.

Should have said, Office XP integrates more with the OS core so most probably a version conflict.

Let us know how you get on. :)
