Google lays off 200 people

Firing people is becoming almost fashionable. Plus, it gets your name in the newspapers/media. :P

Isn't that the first EVER layoff by Google? Everyone is supposed to be under the impression the search giant is untouchable.

Well, it seems their status as "untouchable" is no more. 200 people is nothing compared to companies laying off thousands, but still the search engine giant is finally feeling todays economic downfall.

Isn't that the first EVER layoff by Google? Everyone is supposed to be under the impression the search giant is untouchable.
According to the Bits blog on the NYTimes, Google laid off 100 recruiters in January, 40 people in radio advertising in February and 300 people when it acquired DoubleClick last April - all before this happened.

Now, these people may have a job at Google currently, but they've eliminated positions before.
