GoDaddy What are your opinions?

So GoDaddy has decided to take a rather extreme route to web hosting. What does everybody think about their current news? I have a feeling this will temporarily hurt many of the current hosts (I say temporarily because very shortly they will mostly likely get burned by this offer as we have seen in the past :D).

What exactly are you referring to?

As a side note, .com registrations and transfers are now only $6.95 per year (plus their $.25 ICANN fee per year) with GoDaddy. That's cheap. :shh:

Specifically referring to this e-mail I recieved from them:
-----------------------------
Looking for a little bit more out of your hosting plan? How does this sound? 900% MORE Disk Space! 900% MORE Bandwidth! 900% MORE Databases! 400% Email Accounts! And ALL for the same low price!

Now you can enjoy more, More, MORE with your hosting plan — MORE Disk Space, MORE Bandwidth! MORE Email Accounts! MORE MySQL Databases! We've rebuilt your Economy Hosting Plan making it MORE powerful than ever:

•Increased Disk Space from 500 MB to 5,000 MB •Increased Bandwidth from 25 GB to 250 GB •Increased Email Accounts from 100 to 500 •Increased your Database MySQL from 1 to 10
Don't think it can get any better? Think again! The best part about this great announcement is that you don't have to do a thing! Nada. Zilch. It's all automatic. It won't cost you a penny more. There are no service interruptions and the update is already available.

So start enjoying a lot more — for no more! And thanks as always for being a
Go Daddy® Customer.

I don't think this will impact the web hosting "world" at all actually. There are so many companies that offer even more than GoDaddy so you have nothing to worry about. It would certainly have immediate reaction on their current client list (probably), however, not so many people are still keep on trying GoDaddy.com hosting, with or without MORE stuff.

As a side note, .com registrations and transfers are now only $6.95 per year

Ok, I have problems with their little E-mail they sent you.

Assuming 100% is full, the max. The absolute most you can ever have. How can you have 900%?

"Well Johnny, you did so well on your English test that I am going to give you a 900% - WAY TO GO MISTER A++++++!"

"Bar tender, I'd like 50% scotch and 850% rocks."

"Please fill my glass 900% full."

I'm not personally too concerned about GoDaddy, but there are a few domains I was holding off on purchasing, I'll have to pick 'em up now that they're on sale. Thanks Marc for the info!

It's just the amount they increased it by. 900% would mean 9x and 400% would mean 4x more, since 100% = 1.

Hi Senad,

Nice info, everything more & more but I hope their support & service will also be excellent which is very important to survive in the industry.

I must agree that the impact should be rather minute in the hosting industry. This isn't the first time we've seen a large company offer such a deal and although Godaddy is large, it's but a small slice of the overall industry.

Having percentages in the hundreds (101%-999%) is pretty common and certainly possible. It's the same thing, in effect, as saying 2x,3x,9x, etc. The 100's of % just make the numbers sound better: marketing 101.

Godaddy is going on the philosophy that most people won't use up nearly the amount of resources they are alloted. It is a great sales tool I must admit.

Got the same email and as jagweb said, give a person 5,000 megs of space they most likely won't use 250. If the account would use that 250 gigs of bandwidth they would hit them on Terms of Use Policy stating over ue of other system resources.

godaddy seems to hold a good portion of the domain market now. There configuration is quite confusing for some aspects like DNS settings. It seems like they try to hide certain features lol...

Not to sure about their hosting, I've heard mixed things...

Quantity than quality

they are going in for volumes rather than quality. I am sure that a point would come when there would be more space used up than anticipated and many sites would face problems. They are relying on the fact that none would use all the space. But as the sites hosted on their server increases they would face some problems

This is exactly what i post into another thread :)
Quantity versus quality. (Both of them would be a dream ;) )

Some webhosters are forgetting that many customers have no clue when it comes to computers or how to publish their websites.
So, you can imagine how they feel when it comes to settings problems or bugs and they have to wait 4 days (and sometimes more) to get an answer to their trouble tickets?
Beyound the problems of resources, i am sure that GD will also facing the problem of support...

Godaddy Really got a problem with Support, They seam to think that there clients can wait for ever, its sad,i wasted once 600$ on them (SSL+hosting+domain) But Support/uptime was bad..way bad..
