Gaming Servers and the gamers

I just watched an online argument with the first person starting out telling everyone else (on a geek forum) that gamers are the root of all evil, they expect too much from their ISP and hosting providers. Now I know many gamers, and in fact I game myself but many of us are reasonable folk, so I was kind of shocked at this outburst. What are others thoughts on this? Do we always expect too much and agitate our hosting companies? :D

I was formally a "big gamer" and I have to admit my expectations were quite high as alot of games online are "ping dependent" and some hosts just don't realize this.

Most people won't get a server, or play in a server that has over 50 ping these days.

Some gamers are awfully picky when it comes to gaming servers, and particularly at how fast the games run.

While I understand complaining if you are lagging out to heck and back in every game you play, some people like to whine about even the slightest of bumps or hiccups.

Personally I take most of the problems in stride, unless massive slowdown is a regular occurrence.

Well I do still game though not as much as I used to and I try to not expect the world handed to me or anything but I have seen some nasty servers out there that well, I could be 80 by the time they get their stuff updated to the current times. :D And rider, most times they are needed more CPU not the BW. Some private WOW servers are crazy with awesome ping times, but I think they kick out the lamers to keep things under control. :D

HL-James: Were all P.C games available for the Xbox also, than you may have a stronger case. Not to mention, P.C versions of games tend to be much more customizable with Mods,Maps, and Skins. Things like that are yet to be fully brought into the console realm in an acceptable manner.

Like it or not, but the need for P.C gaming servers will not be going away anytime soon.

I think some people do not take the time to realize how pretentious and whiny they sound. They probably aren't perfect and yet they expect things to be "because they pay good money" for it. For sure there are some that are like that but many more consider it part of the game. I know when I used to game back in high school (way back in the early 90s) it was always a risk of getting kicked offline and missing part of the game. It made it more fun though.

No, I just think that a lot of people are in love with complaining over the most trivial issues.

With nothing for them to complain about, they almost feel rather bored.

After using many game servers myself, I am perplexed how some people continue to whine over a servers performance that has always worked well for me.

It is true that many people will complain over simple things but it is a little odd when you do have a good server up and you test it yourself that is a little over board. Sometimes I really think people expect the best no matter what it cost anyone else, as long as it doesnt cost them. ;)

Some people just have to accept the fact that it is absolutely impossible for things to work perfectly every time.

Like it or not, but some hiccups are bound to happen occasionally EVERYWHERE.

Some people are just never happy, and frankly...I wish they would learn to just shut the heck up sometimes!

If things are "so poor" they should just try to start their own servers. Then they can find out for themselves, how hard it is to please people like them.

Oh, absolutely!

Some of the largest hosts are actually also some of the worst offenders with this kind of thing!

This just goes to show that a hosts size doesn't not always necessarily mean a better quality than the smaller hosts out there.

That's besides the point though, since every host in existence has some degree of bumps...even if they are barely noticeable.
