Gambling Hosting

Why is it that some hosting disallows gambling on its servers? I understand the limitations on 'other' adult services, but is this classed similarly, and if so why? I know that its illegal in some countries, but not all. So what is it that some hosts have against it?

Gambling and adult content are entirely different with regards to the laws of most countries.
I suspect if a company does not allow gambling sites it is because the country where the servers are does not allow it.

Ah yes, that would make sense. I haven't looked into whether UK hosting allows it since I'm in the US currently, and hence since it is a touchy subject here I can understand it not being allowed. Thank you.

I don't think it's a touchy subject.
Most gambling sites are simply on offshore servers, IE: Antigua, in the Caribbean.

I thought there still many hosting provider allow gambling site :)
Don't worry about a few hosting which disallow it, you still have wide choice. Enjoy your own site :)

Correct me if I am wrong but I do not think gambling sites are allowed in US. You might want to look for a offshore provider.

Dont think Gambling sites are legal in US, if you are interested in opening a gambling site try looking for a off shore host/datacenter.

Online gambling is 100% illegal in the USA -- it is "somewhat" legal in canada and definitely legal in many tropical island countries, which is where most online gambling sites host their servers

It sure is illegal in the states which is why we all recommend offshore destinations where gambling is allowed.

I like Whic's take on "and definitely legal in many tropical island countries, which is where most online gambling sites host their server"

Winning loads of cash in the sun drinking out of glasses with little umbrellas sounds great - next time you gamble bring be along - Drinks on me

So why is it then that the tropical islands get the tropics, nice weather and the gambling? :D

Really though it is so silly with this stuff being illegal. I know some are talking about having it legal to save up and help out each state (like how the lotto works), but who knows if that will ever happen.

Doubt it, but many Vegas should make it legal.

If you wish to have a gambling site, an offshore server is what you need. Also, many hosts allow adult content as long as it is legal. As most countries and states allow legel adult content, a host won't mind hosting it.

This is why I said it was a touchy subject. I do not agree with the US stance on online gambling-if online is bad then so are brick and mortar gambling establishments. Since those are allowed, why ban online stuff?

If nothing else, the reservations should be allowed to have online sites. Its all just a little bit contradictory.

Only a few states actually allow gambling.
You can't compare brick and mortar to online unless the federal government has a unilateral law regarding gambling.

Also, online gambling would be harder to track for the US government. There a quite a bit of online gambling sites that are owned by US Citizens, but avoid the law by using an offshore server. Gambling places that take place within the US go through a long process to become verifed. Also, those that make the cut in the US are monitored like dogs. Agents come in 1-2 times a year, depending on the casino to check on them.

Online, where is the agent to go if the server is offshore? :P
