I'm planning my gadget wish list. Does anyone know by any chance what is the difference between the following:

VHF FM Transmitter

If anyone has any experience, could you maybe suggest what the best thing to have to keep a contact in the big house between parties, as well as something that can be used with up to 3-5 mile range in the city?

Also on the list is an MP3 player (non CD based). What would be the difference between a Flash-based MP3 player and Hard drive-based player? Which is better?

I dont know about the 2way radio or the Transmitters but I can tell you a little bit about mp3 players. A flash based contains only memory so for the same price as a hard drive based mp3 player you will get much less space on it. Typically 1mb equals 1 minute of music(if the playback rate is 128kbps in mp3). The advantage of a flash based player is that it will usually be reallly light so you can just clip it on while you're running or working out or something - which is what these were originally intended for anyways. With a HD based player you will have tons more room so instead of only 1 album you will be able to put hundreds probably but its not goint to be very light. So it all depends on what you will be using it for.
 
Hey thank you, its was the best explanation ever. But what about storing other data on it, like using it as an extra storage thing and carry important documents with you - does both of them work that way or only hard disk players?

Wish I knew the answer. It's been a while since I quit working at Best Buy LOL - havent really kept up with the latest models - so they might come with that feature now.
 
Well, after enough research, I'm going with this one:

I compared user reviews from Cnet - it was the most voted for player (83%) among the top mp3 players under $100.

Plus, the player's memory is expandable, unlike other under $100 players.

Now the hunt for the best price with lowest shipping cost to Canada under way...

EDIT: Looks like Overstock has the lowest price for it as well.
 
Actually I ended up buying Sonicblue Rio S10 player from www.etronics.com - what a great store! I'll definitely buy something from it again - the selection is huge, everything is brand new, guarantees are there, pricing is one of the lowest on everything. I loved it. They even have a special checkout process for Canadian residents!
